It might not have the most inviting name, but if you give it a chance and book an RV in Battle Ground, Washington you will see and experience one of the loveliest small towns in the Pacific Northwest. Battle Ground is named for a small skirmish that took place between the Klickitat native people and the soldiers at Vancouver Barracks (the first military base in the region). Battle Ground is located just 10 miles from the city of Vancouver, while Portland, Oregon is not much farther, residing just over the Columbia River that divides Washington and Oregon.

Aside from the cheerful shops at Battle Ground Village and the refreshing selection of restaurants in town, Battle Ground has begun to make a name for itself in the wine industry, too. Serving as the epicenter to Clark County’s wine production, Battle Ground has a few wineries, with more to come in the future as the industry is young and growing rapidly.

Each summer, Harvest Days is a major event held in town that celebrates the history and heritage while giving locals an occasion to let loose and party. These joyous festivities include parades, a chili cook-off, street dancing, a carnival, and more. When you rent an RV in Battle Ground, it’s easy to get around, as both Interstate 205 and Interstate 5 run through the peripheries of town and enable you to drive to many other amazing cities like Olympia or Seattle to the north, or Eugene to the far south.

Not far out of town, Lewisville Regional Park is the perfect place to start your tour of Washington’s fantastic environment. Just two miles north of Battle Ground, this park can be found on the National Register of Historic Places and is one of the oldest parks in the northwest. A swimming pond, sports fields and courts, walking trails, and playgrounds are all present at the park and ready to use for visitors. Battle Ground Lake State Park is another can’t-miss opportunity to experience the unique environment of southern Washington. The park is the site of an ancient volcano that exploded a staggering 100,000 years ago, resulting in the creation of the small bean-shaped lake that now welcomes people from all around to swim in its soothing waters. There are boat ramps, beaches, and lots of fish to catch in the lake that’s surrounded by rich, dense, evergreen forests on all sides.

Take your Battle Ground RV rental a little farther east and you will discover the unparalleled beauty of Moulton Falls Regional Park. Sitting at the confluence of two rivers, there are massive and mighty waterfalls careening down lush mountainsides and picturesque bridges traversing the water, providing excellent photo opportunities.

Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge is to the west, along the banks of the Columbia River where many migratory birds seek shelter during their perilous journey spanning entire continents. There are lots of places to kayak or canoe and look for these beautiful birds in the wetlands of the nature preserve.

Gifford Pinchot National Forest dominates the area with well over a million acres of pristine wilderness in the form of high mountain glaciers, alpine meadows, and dense old growth forest. The forest is even home to Mount Saint Helens National Volcanic Monument that marks the sight of one of the most massive eruption/explosions in the area. If you are feeling really bold, visit Mt. Rainier National Park just to the north of Gifford Pinchot National Forest to see some of the most breathtaking views and mountains imaginable.
