Carnation is a small town in a verdant valley surrounded by forests, serene fields, rivers, and mountains. Open space and recreational lands are adjacent to the city limits. Founded in 1865, the town’s name flip-flopped between Tolt and Carnation every few years. It finally settled in 1951; the name Carnation is a nod to the Carnation Milk Products Company, which has a major research center near the Washington town. In addition to numerous outdoor recreational activities in the nearby state and national parks, the town is home to Camlann Medieval Village and Remlinger Farms, which has a small amusement park in addition to “u-pick” fields for the public.

Historians will love that several centenarian homes are still standing in Carnation and its outskirts; take a driving tour through the town and enjoy the Craftsman style homes, bungalows, or vernacular dwellings with a few Queen Anne style structures.

The closest large town is Redmond, about 14 miles away. Seattle is on the west side of Lake Washington, 30 miles away. The Snoqualmie Pass in the Cascades range is about 45 miles to the east.

The Great Outdoor

When you rent an RV in Carnation, you will gain access to a whole world of outdoor recreational activities. Nearby parks offer miles of interconnected trails suitable for hiking, horseback riding, and biking. The Snoqualmie Valley Trail, for example, is a 32-mile trail that climbs gently through forested hillsides. In summer, pick wild blackberry, elderberry, pea, and wild roses. The trail begins in Duvall at the Park and Ride. It heads south, along the Snoqualmie River and through the Stillwater Natural Area. Passing the Snoqualmie Falls and over cold, crystal clear streams, it terminates at the Rattlesnake Lake.

Chinook Bend Natural Area and Tolt River both offer excellent boating and fishing opportunities. Steelheads, rainbow trout, and cutthroats are plentiful in these waters. Be mindful, though, that there is a 14” limit on fish below the forks, and wild steelheads must be released. If you are unfamiliar with the difference, the local fish and bait shop in Carnation will happily educate you when selling you a fishing license. Park your Carnation RV rental and enjoy the river with family!

The Duthie Hill is Seattle’s premier mountain biking park. Enjoy a multitude of trail options for mountain bike riders of all abilities, for those trying off road for the first time to riders looking for big air. There are equestrian centers in the area, and a few will rent horses for trail riding.

RV Parks

When you rent a motorhome in Carnation, you’ll need someplace to park while you explore the surrounding area. Tall Chief Camping Resort may fit the bill. The resort offers amenities such as WiFi, hot showers, restrooms, laundry facilities, and play area. Luxury features like a sauna and a hot tub may further tempt you into relaxing here after a long day.

Blue Sky RV Park, just off Interstate 90, is a possible alternative. The park offers 30/50 amps hookups for your RV, laundry facilities, restroom, and showers, and is dog-friendly.

For a more rustic park, consider the Tolt MacDonald Park and Campgrounds, which is near Carnation. Although electric and water hookups are available for your RV, space is limited, and it’s recommended that you reserve in advance.

Should you need a quick overnight stay, consider Walmart, truck stops, and larger grocery stores. The closest Walmart is in Bellevue, just past Redmond and may be available for overnight camping. Be sure to ask the store manager for permission. Gas stations are located in a few locations in between the larger towns on State Route 203.

Exploring the City

There are several centenarian homes still standing in Carnation and its outskirts; take a driving tour through the town and enjoy the Craftsman style homes, bungalows, or vernacular dwellings with a few Queen Anne style structures.

Hit the courses at the nearby Blue Heron Golf Course. One of a handful in the Seattle area, this golf course offers a full 18 holes for you avid golfers, cart rentals, lessons, and friendly tournaments.

Once a small family operated fruit stand, the Remlinger Farms has grown and now offers a Family Fun Park, market, restaurant, a u-pick program, and an on-site restaurant. There are several other u-pick farms nearby, with different fruits and vegetable options, depending on the season.

Enjoy driving your RV rental through the Carnation countryside. This agricultural region is thriving with horse farms, wineries, and traditional working farms. The lush, tranquil rolling hills will make for wonderful landscape photography so don't forget your camera.

Explore the Camlann Medieval Village, which strives to give its visitors an authentic look at life in 1376 England. Make a day of it and while there, dine at the Bors Hede inn, which prepares meals using genuine 14th-century recipes.

Support the Zoological Society of Washington’s conservation efforts and experience a close encounter with the animals that reside at the Cougar Mountain Zoo in Issaquah. It has, among many other animals, cougars, reindeer's, tigers, and wolves on site. The zoo also has an art gallery and museum featuring endangered wildlife.

Enjoy the occasional sun peeking through the clouds, take a hike on a trail, watch a sunset, and take in the landscape. Hop in your camper rental from Carnation and go exploring. There’s plenty of things to do and see in the Evergreen State!
