Clinton, WA, is most well known for being the terminus of the Mukilteo-Clinton Ferry, a key link in the Washington State Ferry system connecting the northern end of the Seattle metro to Whidbey Island. While many of the other towns on Whidbey Island can feel a bit isolated, Clinton feels more connected with the mainland and all of its amenities. Its location on a bluff near the island’s southeastern edge gives fantastic views of Puget Sound.

If you’re interested in heading into the big city when you book an RV in Clinton it’s probably best to use public transportation. Buses stop in Mukilteo and connect up to Seattle’s transit system in Everett. Leaving your Clinton RV rental in either of these towns will save you the challenges associated with the traffic and parking in Seattle.

The Great Outdoors

Clinton’s location on Whidbey Island with easy access to the mainland means you should never need to travel far for outdoor adventure. If you’re hoping to hit the links when you rent an RV here, there are a few courses on the island – no trip to the mainland required. Double Bluff Beach along the island’s southwestern edge is the perfect place to take your four-legged companion as there’s an extensive off-leash area where they can roam free.

For long walks on the beach, check out South Whidbey State Park, only a short drive away. The park is small, but its location on the island’s western edge makes it the perfect place for sunset strolls. More serious hikers should make their way to Deception Pass State Park on the island’s northern tip. There are some fantastic trails winding their way around the magnificent cliffs that form the gateway from the Strait of Juan de Fuca into Skagit Bay.

You could also take a day trip to Olympic National Park, a short ferry ride to the south of Whidbey Island. The park is one of the most diverse environments in the country and includes one of the only temperate rainforests in the lower 48 states. To really see the park, you’d need a week or more to explore its interior, but some of the short and interesting trails along the rainforest floor can be found on its eastern edge.

A little way down the road from that is North Sound RV Park, which offers full hookups for your motorhome rental in Clinton along with a dance hall where Zumba and ballroom dancing classes are offered.

Exploring the Town of Clinton

One of the most popular activities, when you choose a travel trailer rental in Clinton, is to visit some vineyards. Whidbey Island’s excellent climate makes it the perfect place for growing grapes. If vino isn’t your thing though, there are also a couple of distilleries and breweries on the island where you can order a tasty adult beverage.

You also definitely won’t want to miss the Bayview Farmers Market, which is held every Saturday in the nearby town of Langley. Most of the vendors are selling fresh produce grown on the island, but there are also some tasty treats and unique gifts that would be appealing to any visitor. To learn a little bit more about the history of Whidbey Island, check out the South Whidbey Historical Society, which is also in Langley. The museum is pretty small, but they do have a great photo collection from many of the island’s towns, plus there are several tours of family farms given every summer.

For cultural experiences, you’ll probably want to skip over to the mainland where there’s a lot more on offer. For example, Museum of Northwest Art in La Conner is a must-see for anyone interested in Pacific Northwest indigenous artworks. They also have workshops a couple times each month where you can learn to create some great pieces on your own.
