The small town of Cosmopolis is located across the Chehalis River from Aberdeen, and an hour's drive west of Washington’s state capital, Olympia. Established in the mid-1800s, Cosmopolis has the designation of being the oldest city on Grays Harbor, with land claims dating back to 1852. The name for the town means “city of the world” in Greek, although the residents affectionately refer to their home as “Cosi”.

When you search for an RV in Cosmopolis, there is so much to do and even more to feast your eyes on. The glorious coastlines of Washington are some of the most scenic places in the Pacific Northwest, and they are only a short drive from town in your Cosmopolis RV rental by owner. This prideful community strives to remain one of the region’s best vacation destinations, and with a welcoming atmosphere, you are bound to feel at home during your visit.

Discover Cosmopolis

Experience the Sites and Scenery

The options are plentiful when you rent an RV in Washington State and want to make your way out into nature. Cosmopolis is especially blessed with splendid forests and enchanting coastlines in proximity. Westport Light State Park offers you the chance to bring your Cosmopolis motorhome rental to the rugged, rocky beaches bordering the Pacific Ocean. This magnificent coastal park is a prime place to go beachcombing, walking on the sand, birdwatching, swimming, or simply lounging on the beach. You can even climb to the top of Washington’s tallest lighthouse, the Grays Harbor Lighthouse. Griffiths-Priday State Park is another small but lovely state park on the coast, a half-hour's drive north of Westport Light State Park. There are gorgeous protected sand dunes shielding the hidden beach from the outside world, and a variety of nature trails to explore. Birdwatching, clam digging, fishing, or observing the migratory gray whales are all part of the park’s magic.

If you head towards Olympia, you will pass by Capitol State Forest, a wonderful, woodsy wilderness. Although parts of the forest remain logging territory, most of the park exists for recreational purposes. You can mountain bike up and down evergreen forest trails, go for a hike or even off-road on a motorcycle. You can even see the Mima Mounds, a bizarre geological phenomenon only found in a few places on the planet.

When you pick up your camper rental in Cosmopolis, you might also want to check out Olympic National Park and Olympic National Forest for at least a day. This stunning outdoor paradise is comprised of over one and a half million acres between the two entities and welcomes over three million visitors per year. A wide range of microclimates are found within the park, like the temperate rainforests in the western sections and the drier, coniferous forests in the west. There are rugged, rocky coastal areas teeming with marine life and majestic snowcapped mountains that can be seen from Seattle on a clear day. There are other national parks you can visit while you rent an RV in Washington, but Olympic National Park should rest firmly on the top of your list of places to visit.

Where to Park It

Grays Harbor County is a popular place to camp out with recreational vehicles, so there are loads of RV parks and campgrounds in the vicinity. Artic RV Park might sound cold but it’s actually quite a cozy park with a warm vibe. There are tranquil walking paths and peaceful garden spaces at the RV park and it has its own pub and restaurant too.

Bayshore RV Park is located on the water, with coastal views by the bay. There are pet-friendly walking areas, community grills and fire pits, beaches and swimming areas, and jaw-dropping sunsets over the water.

Hoquiam River RV Park is located within walking distance of many local attractions and shops, with large RV camping sites to accommodate most RVs. You can utilize the large clubhouse, community spaces, boat launches, and fishing areas of this campground when you bring your Cosmopolis RV rental for a night.

City Attractions

Cosmopolis is a lovely city in Grays Harbor County where you can essentially find most things you need. There are plenty of restaurants and shops to patronize and even more distilleries and breweries in the area. There may not be too many big-name attractions in the Aberdeen/Cosmopolis area, but there are enough to make the most of your trip. Driftwood Players Theater is an intimate theater space featuring performances by talented local singers and actors. This passionate theater troupe has been around for decades and remains a bright spot in town.

The Polson Museum in nearby Hoquiam is full of historical treasures and exhibits recounting the region’s logging industry and local history. There are a number of interesting artifacts on display, including old steam engine locomotives and logging industry equipment from hundreds of years ago. The Hoquiam Castle is also in Hoquiam and is an exceptional place to stop for photos and a tour. This Victorian mansion once belonged to one of the area’s richest timber barons and remains a living shrine to this day. You can see original furniture and artwork while you step back through time in a tour of the house.

Across the river in Aberdeen, music lovers should stop by the Kurt Cobain Memorial Park, a monument celebrating the life of iconic Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. It is a small roadside stop with a guitar statue beside the water, but a nice tribute to a rock legend.
