The luxurious little town of El Dorado Hills in California has it all: a lively town center, exciting parks and lakefront views, engaging local history, and access to some of the most incredible wilderness areas in the country. Named after El Dorado, the famed city of gold, El Dorado Hills is a peaceful little enclave just 22 miles from downtown Sacramento. Even with its proximity to the state capital, you can leave the big city in your rearview mirror when you book an RV in El Dorado Hills and set out on your next great vacation. The gently rolling hills of the countryside soothe the soul and area residents are sure to help you every step of the way. The tiny former gold rush haven is only a few hours’ drive from San Francisco and San Jose, so northern California is quite easy to navigate and explore when you rent an RV in El Dorado Hills. Don’t forget to check out the El Dorado Hills Art, Beer & Wine Festival held each May to celebrate the fabulous local businesses and top-notch wineries in the region.

Explore the Outdoors

El Dorado Hills is extremely proud of its natural beauty and showcases it in its many public parks scattered throughout the city. Art Weisberg Park and Wild Oaks Park are just a few examples of grassy, well maintained public parks ideal for families and friends to enjoy. Picnics, pickup soccer or football games, barbecues and cookouts, these parks are a fine place to spend the day or catch a beautiful sunset.

Browns Ravine State Recreation Area is a noteworthy feature which attracts huge numbers of visitors from the city during summertime. Browns Ravine sits on the shores of Folsom Lake, an artificially dammed lake spanning over 11,500 acres in the foothills of the spectacular Sierra Nevada Mountains. Created by damming the American River, Folsom Lake is the perfect place to spend your hard-earned vacation time in the summer and beat the heat by cooling off in the refreshing waters. Browns Ravine has a marina for all to use as well as multiple boat ramps, so motorized boating, kayaking, canoeing, or even jet skiing are all options when in El Dorado Hills. Taking your El Dorado Hills RV rental to the neighboring town of Folsom will enable you to enjoy Folsom Lake State Recreation Area which is also quite popular with residents and visitors alike. Boating and fishing are just two of the main reasons for visiting this cozy recreation area and camping is an option too, should you choose to stay overnight in your El Dorado Hills camper rental. Folsom Lake is almost entirely surrounded by parks and campgrounds so don’t be afraid to explore a little and find the right fit for you.

Willow Creek State Recreation Area isn’t quite on Folsom Lake, but it sits on the banks of the American River a little bit upstream. This gorgeous little conservation area was carved out by glaciers nearly 9,000 years ago and features many protected wildlife species.

Since northern California is widely acclaimed for its incredible mountain ranges, forests, waterfalls, lakes, and other fascinating natural features, it is tough to explain how easy it is to find beautiful places on your own. Renting an RV in El Dorado Hills and simply heading in any direction will most likely bring you to a noteworthy outdoor destination. But driving east, specifically, will bring you to one of many stunning national forests that dominate the Golden State. Plumas, Tahoe, Humboldt-Toiyabe, Stanislaus, Sequoia, Sierra, Inyo, and El Dorado National Forests are all outdoor paradises in their own right and all deserving of a visit or two or three. Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks are not too far when you rent an RV in town, and feature some of the most breathtaking wilderness you could ever hope to see. The options are truly limitless in the state of California and it is up to you and how far you seek to venture.

Around Town

The town center of El Dorado Hills has countless shops, breweries, restaurants, and other establishments designed to keep you occupied and satisfied when you visit. Distilleries and wineries are also abundant in the small town, so touring the area and doing some sampling is a fun option. While El Dorado Hills has many great parks and outdoor spots, there are not many attractions to speak of in town. But don’t fret; Folsom is adjacent to the city and has lots to do and see and you need not drive far in your El Dorado Hills luxury motorhome rental. The Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary is a great place to take your family and has a stunning menagerie of protected animals rescued and rehabilitated by caring staff. The entrance fee is inexpensive, there is an exquisite bistro on site in case you are hungry, and a lovely gift shop too. Folsom also has a history museum, a Chinese heritage museum celebrating the influence of Chinese railroad builders, and a pioneer village where you can see how settlers lived centuries ago. As you can see there are many options to keep busy and have fun when renting an RV in El Dorado Hills, even if you have to drive a little bit to see everything.

RV Parks to Visit

Folsom is a very accommodating place to rent an RV, and places to stay overnight are seemingly everywhere you go. All of the recreation areas located around Folsom Lake including Folsom Lake Recreation Area and Browns Ravine Recreation Area have wonderful campgrounds perfect for short or long stays. The water is so close to the campsites you can hear the summertime splashes and fish jumping at sunset and sunrise. Beals Point Recreation Area and Granite Bay are also excellent places to park and stay overnight and both enjoy unimpeded views of the majestic Folsom Lake. The nearby national forest lands have hundreds of campgrounds between them and are all viable options should you want to explore more. Placerville KOA has more of a resort feel with its pool, hot tub, and many other amenities that aren’t usually found at recreation areas or state-run parks, including a mini golf course and bicycle rentals.
