Freeland is nestled neatly onto an island located between Seattle and Vancouver. Considering its location this is by no means an ‘in between’ kind of place and is well worth a visit in your RV rental. Known as the commercial center of South Whidbey Island, rent an RV in Freeland to take advantage of the numerous bay beaches, retail outlets, peaceful parks and restaurants on offer.
Despite its seemingly remote location, Freeland, WA is only 15 minutes north from the Clinton Ferry and around an hours drive to Deception Pass Bridge. It is the perfect place to explore with your Freeland camper rental.
Located mid-way between two impressive bodies of water, Holmes Harbour and Mutiny Bay, and in close proximity to several State Parks, Freeland is the ideal location to explore by foot, water or bike.
Double Bluff Beach, less than a ten-minute drive away, is considered to be the most beautiful beach on Whidbey Island. With its sandy bay sweeping 2 miles across the coastline, it is well suited for a long stroll, searching for seashells as you go. The wildlife on the beach is also second to none. Take your binoculars and keep a watch out for herons, eagles, and peregrine falcons. Visitors have even been known to spot the odd gray whale off the coast during springtime.
South Whidbey Island State Park is also only a mere ten-minute drive north of Freeland. This 347-acre park is covered in a variety of habitats including old-growth forest perfect for a challenging hike and tidelands ideal for crabbing and clamming (available all year round). Platforms are also scattered across the park offering stunning views of the Puget Sound and Olympic Mountains. Please note this park is not currently open for camping, however there are plans to clear room for a campsite in the future.
Freeland Park is relatively small compared to the others on the island. However, is it in no way inferior. The beautiful views it offers over Holmes Harbour are simply breath taking and well worth the early get-up to watch the sunrise. There is a children’s playground for family days out as well as a sizable beach for leisurely walks with your pooch.
While Freeland itself does not offer any RV parks, head down to Langley, located east of Freeland or Coupeville found towards the North of Whidbey Island.
Situated in Langley, on the East coast, Whidbey Island County Fairground offers overnight stay sites for RVs. Sites are reasonably priced, relatively basic, but do have electric and water hook ups for your RV if required. There are basic toilet facilities, but do not expect anything too plush! A great option for an overnight stay in a convenient and remote location.
If you would rather stay at a park within a larger town, Fort Casey State Park in Coupeville offers fantastic campsites for RVs and can accommodate the largest of trailers. There are an abundance of sites with full hook ups for your Freeland luxury travel trailer rental. You won’t find any dumpsites here, but the restroom facilities are impressive and have everything you will need! Expect to see lots of friendly deer and rabbits hopping around the campsite. Coupeville itself also has fantastic amenities with many restaurants and a variety of shops.
Freeland offers a variety of restaurants, all independently owned that provide fresh produce cultivated from the beautiful landscapes you see around you.
Holmes Harbour Golf Club is impeccably located, offering beautiful views and a challenging course way for both experienced golfers wanting to test out a new course and beginners who want to try their hand at a new sport. Open to the public all year round, this golf club offers an executive-style course with a backdrop of panoramic views over the Olympic Mountains.
Tilth Farmers Market is also well worth a visit if you are in the area on a Sunday. Only 15 minutes drive from Freeland and perfect to drop into if you are on the way back from Langley. On a mission to provide quality products without costing the earth, they promote environmentally sound and environmentally sustainable agriculture. Don't forget to venture down and take a look at the amazing produce sold there, you can even volunteer for the day if you would like to!
