Situated part way between Austin and Waco, Holland, Texas is a charming town that flourished along the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad. It was originally established as the community of Mountain Home, named after Gotcher’s Mountain to the south of town, before being renamed after James Reuben Holland who built a steam-powered cotton gin in the area.

Holland remains a friendly and welcoming town to rent an RV while exploring the nature reserves and historic towns of Bell County. It’s within easy access of charismatic Belton and the lively county seat of Temple and is just an hour’s drive from the artistic streets of Austin.

Discover Holland

The Great Outdoors

Pick up your motorhome rental in Holland and drive west to the Dana Peak Park, which hugs the northern shores of Stillhouse Hollow Lake. This popular recreation area is home to rocky beaches and sandy bluffs, as well as clear waters that are inhabited by largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and channel catfish. Explore the lake’s shoreline by a rental canoe or kayak and visit the human-made wetlands on the southern shore, then embark on the 6.8-mile-long Dana Peak Trail, which also welcomes horses and dogs.

Another popular local fishing destination is Belton Lake, a reservoir that’s managed by the Fort Worth District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It’s been stocked with a variety of bass, sunfish, crappie, and bluegills, luring anglers and boaters from across Texas. Relax in one of the recreational parks along the lake shores, such as the Fort Hood Recreation Area or the Owl Creek Wildlife Management Area while keeping an eye out for great blue herons, songbirds, and bald eagles.

Drive in the other direction, and you’ll arrive at the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge, which was created to conserve vital habitat of the golden-cheeked warbler and the black-capped vireo. It encompasses steep canyons and picturesque streams that are etched into the Edwards Plateau and eventually flow into the Colorado River. Follow one of the nature trails that lead through untouched prairie and woodland forests or try your luck at spotting the refuge’s highly endangered bird species from the Shin Oak Observation Deck.

RV Parks

Pick up your travel trailer rental in Holland and pull into the Belton RV Park, which offers a range of pull-through RV sites on the southern edge of Belton. There’s a swimming pool and an exercise room so you’ll never to miss a workout, as well as a laundry facility and Wi-Fi available throughout the property.

Slightly closer to Holland is the TranQuil RV Park in Salado, which offers full hookups at 20, 30 or 50 amps and welcomes big rigs. It nestles within a picturesque country setting and is just a minute’s drive from a fishing lake, with an on-site laundry facility, picnic area, and Wi-Fi also available.

Or, head east to the Downtown Texas RV Park in Rockdale, which is situated just across the highway from the Apache Pass Event Center and its steakhouse. This campground offers full hookups, as well as unlimited Wi-Fi and laundry facilities.
