Discover Monroe

Sites and Scenery

This part of the country is one of the richest when it comes to outdoor activities and recreational areas. In fact, right in the town of Monroe is the Al Borlin Park, a beautiful place where you can float down the Skykomish River that runs through the area, or just walk along one of the many nature trails. This dog-friendly riverside park has well-maintained walking paths, and the views of the river are stunning. Enjoy a picnic, a hike, bike ride, canoeing or kayaking, in this beautiful park.

About a mile west of town is the 1,400+ acre Lord Hill Park, a nature preserve with a thick evergreen forest, trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, all just minutes from the main roads. Bald eagles and red tail hawks are frequent visitors, as well as deer and other forest animals. You’ll feel miles from everywhere in this nearby park.

Fifteen miles northwest of Monroe is Everett, Washington, on the shore of Possession Sound. Nearby Spencer Island Park is a birdwatcher’s haven, on this marshy 400-acre island that can be reached by crossing a historic bridge to reach this island on the Snohomish River estuary. Or, take a ferry (seasonal) to Jetty Island, a man-made island and natural park. Enjoy the clear waters and warm sand, or explore the nature trails on this scenic gem. Reservations are recommended for the ferry.

A trip to this area is not complete without a visit to Mount Rainier National Park. Just a two-hour drive in your Monroe rental RV, this 263,000-acre wilderness area is an icon in the Washington landscape. An active volcano, Mount Rainier stands tall as the most glaciated peak in the lower 48 states. These glaciers are the birthplace of five major rivers, which wind through wildflower meadows, ancient forests, and the lower slopes of the mountain. Wildlife flourishes here and your experience will be unforgettable. There are camping areas for your Monroe rental camper, hundreds of miles of trails, and adventures that include fishing, hiking, backpacking and more. Pets and bicycles are not permitted on park trails.

This museum, in the Seattle Center Park (adjacent to the Space Needle), is incredibly unique and interesting. Indoor exhibits are displayed thoughtfully with gorgeous lighting and outdoor art pieces are beautifully illuminated at night. The work of Dale Chihuly is seamlessly blended with the landscape, lending a surrealness that is impossible to duplicate.
