Monticello is a small town in southeast Arkansas. Though it was incorporated as a city in 1852, town progress came to a halt during the Civil War. Today, Monticello is becoming the ultimate vacation destination. Loved for its natural beauty, historic homes, and the large Lake Monticello, there’s plenty to do when you rent a motorhome in Monticello. Though spectacular in its own right, Monticello is just 95 miles from Little Rock and 50 miles southeast of Pine Bluff. Home to the University of Arkansas at Monticello, several museums, and near one of Arkansas’s favored state parks, your next adventure awaits when you book an RV rental in Monticello, Arkansas.

The Great Outdoors

Lake Monticello is a 1,500-acre body of water with some of the best bass fishing and boating opportunities in Arkansas. In fact, a catch in the lake was deemed the one of the biggest largemouth bass ever caught in the state. Other sport fish include catfish, bream, and crappie. Access the water via the concrete boat ramps and courtesy docks, or just have a lakeside picnic at one of the on-site picnic pavilions. Whether you’re interested in a relaxing day on the water, looking to do some sport fishing, or hanging out with friends by the lake, Lake Monticello is a must-visit when you book a travel trailer rental in Monticello.

Near Monticello, you’ll find Seven Devils Swamp and Cut-Off Creek Wildlife Management Areas, both of which offer a variety of recreational activities. Hunting for alligator, bear, deer, waterfowl, turkey, and other small game is both permissible and popular on the WMAs. Boats are allowed during certain times of the area, just be sure to check the website to determine when those times are. Cut-Off Creek is more popular for boating than Seven Devils Swamp and is popular among kayakers and canoeists.

Cane Creek State Park in Star City is situated where the Coastal Plain meets the Mississippi Delta. Here, you can trail run, ride, or backpack through the rolling hills, around the lake, and across three suspension bridges. Nearby, you’ll find Bayou Bartholomew, the longest bayou in the world. There’s also a visitor’s center with exhibits and a gift shop, a boat ramp, fishing piers, a bathhouse with warm showers, and a playground.

RV Parks

The campground at Cane Creek State Park could be a great option if you’re seeking a place to park your RV rental from Monticello. The campground boasts several campsites with partial hookups. While at the campground, you’ll have access to miles of hiking trails within the park, a playground, a bathhouse with hot showers, and a laundry facility. Boat and bike rentals are also available if you want to explore the park in that way.

There’s also J & S RV Park. Just east of Lake Monticello, the small RV park has 20 sites with full hookups, including 30 and 50 amp electrical service. Leashed pets are allowed, and the campground offers space for your boats and watercraft. Other amenities include paid laundry facilities and paid showers.

Exploring the City

It’s nice to acquaint yourself with the history and culture of an area when you visit. When you book an RV in Drew County, you can do just that at The Drew County Historical Museum. While here, you’ll be able to browse through artifacts and antiques which give insight into the history of Monticello and Drew County. The museum grounds consist of two 1880's log cabins, a home built in 1909, guided tours, and activity programs.

The Turner Neal Museum of Natural History is located on the campus of the University of Arkansas at Monticello. It is home to the Pomeroy Planetarium and houses various exhibits, including fish, amphibians, mammals, birds, reptiles, fossils, plants, and minerals. Of particular interest are the two collections of North American and African big game animals and two 360-gallon aquariums with tropical and native fish. Be sure to stop by and check out the museum when you book a motorhome rental in Monticello.

Whether you’re after a specific souvenir or just looking to spend some uninterrupted time soaking in the sights, a trip to the North Main Historic District is sure to please. The area is also home to more than 20 homes built during the turn of the 20th century and features a broad range of Victorian architecture. The Allen House is one of the most notable houses and is considered to be haunted. If you’re interested, you can contact the Allen House to book a tour of the majestic mansion when you have a campervan rental in Monticello.
