Preston, just east of Issaquah, is a former site of a sawmill, which operated for nearly a hundred years, from 1892 till 1974. Long before the town was established, this land was home to the Snoqualmie People, who since time immemorial have hunted, fished and lived in this land and continue to live in the Snoqualmie Valley to this day. Tucked into the foothills of the Cascades along a scenic stretch of the Raging River, Preston, Washington is a small wooded town on the outskirts of Tiger Mountain State Park. Get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city, and visit the sleepy suburbs on your way to Tiger Mountain or the Cascades.

The closest large town is Issaquah, six miles to the west. The Snoqualmie Pass in the Cascades is about 35 miles to the east. Seattle is just under 25 miles to the west. And Olympic National Park is about 100-150 miles to the west, depending on what part of the park you want to visit.

The Tiger Mountain and Raging River, which are right next door, for example, offer a diverse range of recreation opportunities, including hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, hang gliding, and paragliding. Laugh if you like at the name, “Poo Poo Point.” It’s a real spot; it’s a popular launching point for paragliders and has fantastic views of the valley

The Rattlesnake Mountain Scenic Area is a smaller park, but in addition to having great views of the valley and varied landscape features and pockets of old growth forest, it’s also a Roosevelt elk habitat. It’s a landscape photographer’s dream.

The Snoqualmie River and its tributaries are a fisherman’s delight. An angler could easily catch four different species of fish in the same day: steelhead, cutthroat, silver, and pink salmon. The river flows out of the central Cascade Mountains through the south, middle and north forks which join to form the mainstem river at Snoqualmie. It then flows over a massive waterfall, known as Snoqualmie Falls. The Falls is small but mighty. A popular scenic attraction, more than 1.5 million visitors come to the Falls every year.
