Rome, Georgia rests in Floyd County and is one of the largest cities in it. Located near the Appalachian Mountains, Rome is known for its Native American heritage and Civil War sites.

Alpharetta is about 60 miles east of town, with Dalton located less than 45 minutes to the north. The city is also just a short drive away from Georgia’s capital Atlanta.

Located in the middle of the city is the Capitoline Wolf. This bronze statue was designed to be a replica of the famous Capitoline Wolf statue in Rome, Italy. While at first, it caused controversy in the city, it has since become a popular attraction. It was also the site of where the Olympic Torch was handed off during the 1996 Olympic relay to Atlanta

Exploring the City

Rome is home to a variety of attractions you can explore with your RV rental. The Chieftains Museum, also known as the Major Ridge Home, is designed to help tell the story of local Native American history. Inside this 1792 house, you’ll find many different exhibits to view and help you learn more about the previous owner of the home along with local Indian tribes that once lived in the city. The museum also hosts many events during the year to help you better immerse yourself into local history. Keep in mind admission is required to enter.

There’s also the Oak Hill and The Martha Berry Museum which was once the home of Berry College’s founder Martha Berry. Built in 1884, this Greek Revival mansion now serves as a museum that features many different exhibits and galleries. You’ll also find a shop you can visit for souvenirs and some gardens in the back you can tour.

You’ll also find the Cherokee Vann Cabin. This small log cabin, built in the early 1800s, is considered to be an important Trail of Tears attraction. It was recently restored and offers tours inside you can take to view the historic architecture and Cherokee artifacts.

There are many restaurants in Rome for you to grab a bite to eat after a long day, like cafes, Italian places, and a few comfort food eateries. You’ll also find some different restaurants serving cuisines from around the world.
