The town of Simla lies in the High Plains region of Colorado less than an hour's drive to the northeast of Colorado Springs. It was originally built as a stop on the Rock Island Railway, which ran from Kansas to Denver. For most of its early history it was known for its agricultural products, however, it transitioned over to a manufacturing and service economy in the middle of the 20th century. Today it stands as a perfect example of quiet, small town living, even though it’s within commuting distance of the Denver metropolis.

When you book an RV in Simla, expect a relaxing experience away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Simla doesn’t have too many attractions of its own, but it is conveniently located near to Denver, Colorado Springs, the Rocky Mountains, and the vast High Plains region to the east. When you rent an RV here, you’ll never need to go far to reach a great attraction.

The Great Outdoors

One of the best ways to get outside near Simla is to drive some backcountry roads. While much of the area to the east of town is farmland, you can still find a few great examples of prairie wilderness if you get off the beaten path. If you’re hoping to hit the links with your camper rental in Simla, head to the golf course just outside of Limon. There are also dozens of them near Colorado Springs and Denver if you’re willing to travel a little farther.

An unexpected treat just outside of town is the Paint Mines Interpretive Park, a relatively small open space filled with psychedelic-colored badlands. The park gets its name from the Native Americans that previously collected clay from it to construct their colorful pottery. Whether you love history or just beautiful landscapes, this is a fantastic place to visit when you get a travel trailer rental in Simla.

Another interesting formation lies west of Colorado Springs, Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument. This is one of the largest fossil beds in the world and there are several self-guided tours at the park that pass by the more noticeable fossil formations. Inside the visitor’s center, you can learn how the fossils are extracted, cleaned, and prepared for exhibition to the general public.
