Owner Of The Week: Garr Russell

Renting out an RV or two is awesome, and that’s exactly what the vast majority of RV owners use the Outdoorsy platform for. However, there are a select few who take it one step farther.

Can you imagine having a dozen rental locations across the country and managing multiple RVs at each one? Well that’s exactly what Garr Russell and his team at The Camper Connection do.

“I purchased my first RV about nine years ago because I liked the idea of driving a Class C down the road with my kid sitting behind me on the couch,” Garr says. “We’ve had so many great RVing experiences. The last couple of winters, we traveled for two months in our RV with our 4 kids and my mother-in-law, and this winter we are staying in a 5th wheel for five months in Florida. I just love being with my wife and kids.”

Curious about how Garr got into the RV rental business? So were we.

“I found out what my friends paid to rent an RV, so deciding to rent mine was a no-brainer,” Garr explains. He found Outdoorsy and got signed up. “Why not? Outdoorsy is the perfect solution!” Garr thought to himself.

Since then, the entrepreneur’s business has done nothing but grow.

“I now own a 31-foot Jayco Greyhawk Class C RV, a 31-foot Puma Bunkhouse Travel Trailer, a 15-foot pop-up, a 19-foot Dutchman Eco, and a 21-foot Sportsman Bunkhouse,” Garr shares. “Altogether we have about 150ish RVs available for rent [nationwide], and we probably brought in about $250,000 or so on Outdoorsy last year.”

Despite the enormous growth of his business, Garr continues to focus on putting good back into the world. With the profits his RV rental business brings in, he and his family are currently paying for a missionary’s housing and food in South Africa.

“I hope our RVs help others make memories and experience family bonding,” he says. Giving back though, he adds, is the true reward.
