Backwater RV Park

Campground in Abbeville, AL • 30 RV Sites

Backwater RV Park in Abbeville, Alabama, spans over 45 acres in Henry County with campsites equipped for 30 and 50-amp hookups — a spacious south Alabama campground in the Chattahoochee River watershed near the Georgia border, where the Walter F. George Lake's bass and crappie fishery, the Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge's waterfowl habitat, and the historic river port community of Eufaula give guests the specific southeast Alabama outdoor recreation and antebellum heritage access of a campground at the edge of the Alabama-Georgia border lake and plantation country. Abbeville's Henry County position on US-431 south of Dothan gives the park its practical southeast Alabama highway access between the Wiregrass region's agricultural communities and the Eufaula bluff-top city whose antebellum architecture and the Lake Eufaula bass fishery give the Chattahoochee valley its specific combination of historical heritage and freshwater recreation. More than 45 acres of spacious campground with 30 and 50-amp hookups give Backwater RV Park the open, uncrowded character of a Henry County property whose acreage gives sites the breathing room that the more densely developed small-acre campground cannot provide — the 45-acre extent means that site spacing, natural vegetation buffers between neighbors, and the property's specific countryside character of a south Alabama rural campground give guests the relaxed open-country camping environment that the campground's Henry County agricultural landscape sustains. Pets are welcome. Walter F. George Lake (Lake Eufaula), on the Chattahoochee River on the Alabama-Georgia state line in Barbour, Henry, and Russell Counties, is the largest lake in Alabama — a 45,181-acre Corps of Engineers reservoir that sustains the most productive largemouth bass fishery in the state and one of the top ten bass lakes in the eastern United States by tournament circuit visitation. The lake's Stripers, crappie, and the trophy largemouth bass give the Walter F. George reservoir the multi-species fishing appeal that the Major League Fishing and Bassmaster tournament schedules consistently place in the top tier of southeastern bass tournament venues. Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge, 15 miles north of Abbeville on US-431 in Barbour County, protects 11,184 acres of the Chattahoochee River floodplain that give the refuge's wintering waterfowl and the Wood Duck nesting population the bottomland hardwood and shallow impoundment habitat that the Eufaula area's Chattahoochee floodplain specifically preserves in the most productive waterfowl refuge in the Alabama-Georgia Coastal Plain. The refuge's goose and duck hunting season and the waterfowl observation drive give the Abbeville campground's guests the wildlife access in the winter months that the bass fishing season supplements in the spring and fall. Backwater RV Park serves guests year-round in Henry County's southeast Alabama climate, where the mild winters sustain the year-round Chattahoochee valley outdoor recreation and the spring bass spawn season from February through April representing the peak bass fishing demand on Lake Eufaula. Eufaula, 20 miles north of Abbeville on US-431 in Barbour County, is the "Town of Gentle Living" — a bluff-top city above the Chattahoochee with the most concentrated collection of antebellum Greek Revival mansions in Alabama outside of Mobile, preserved in the Shorter Mansion, the Hart House, and the Kendall Manor along the US-431 historic corridor that the Eufaula Heritage Association maintains as the most intact antebellum streetscape in the Black Belt. Reserve sites ahead for the spring bass spawn tournament season and the Eufaula Pilgrimage in March.
