Marina Del Rey Resort

Campground in Afton, OK • 94 RV Sites

Marina Del Rey Resort in Afton, Oklahoma, occupies 1,850 feet of shoreline on Grand Lake O' the Cherokees in Ottawa County — a lakefront RV and cabin resort one hour from Tulsa on the northeastern Oklahoma lake that has served as the primary water recreation destination for the Tulsa metro since its impoundment was completed in 1940. The resort's combination of over 100 full-hookup campsites, cabin rentals, an on-site marina with boat slips, and a 50-by-30-foot swimming pool gives guests the complete Grand Lake experience at a property where the lake's 46,500-acre surface area and the resort's direct water access are the defining attractions, augmented by the social and dining amenities that extend the campground's appeal beyond pure outdoor recreation. Full-hookup campsites across the resort's extensive shoreline frontage accommodate the range of contemporary RV configurations, and rustic cabin rentals serve guests without their own equipment who want the Grand Lake waterfront experience in a solid-wall accommodation. The marina's boat slips give guests with trailered watercraft convenient overnight storage and launch access, and boat rentals through the marina extend Grand Lake access to guests arriving without their own watercraft. The pool handles the midday recreation for guests who prefer controlled swimming to the open lake, and the kids' play area serves families with younger guests. The 55-by-55-foot pavilion with outdoor kitchen gives the resort the group event infrastructure for the family reunions, corporate events, and social gatherings that Grand Lake's established reputation as the Tulsa-area recreation and party lake drives year-round. Grand Lake O' the Cherokees was created by the Pensacola Dam on the Neosho River — at 6,565 feet, the longest multiple-arch dam in the world — and the resulting reservoir's 1,300 miles of shoreline through the Cherokee Nation's northeast Oklahoma homelands has created the most heavily developed lake recreation corridor in Oklahoma. The combination of bass fishing, sailing, powerboating, and the resort-and-marina culture that has accumulated along the Grand Lake shoreline over 80-plus years gives the lake a character distinct from Oklahoma's newer reservoirs and sustains a year-round visitor population that the surrounding resort communities specifically serve. Bernice State Park, a few miles from the resort on Grand Lake's western shore, provides public access hiking, swimming, and camping in a state park setting that complements the resort's amenities with the public land access that guests interested in natural shoreline exploration specifically value. Historic Downtown Grove, the Ottawa County seat on the eastern Grand Lake shore, offers independent shops, local dining, and the Cherokee Heritage Center at nearby Tahlequah — one of the most comprehensive Cherokee cultural institutions in the United States, preserving the language, material culture, and historical narrative of the Cherokee Nation in the Oklahoma heartland of the forced relocation that the Trail of Tears represents. Marina Del Rey Resort serves guests year-round in Grand Lake's northeast Oklahoma climate, with the prime boating and fishing season from late April through October representing the strongest activity window. The bass fishing tournament circuit on Grand Lake runs through spring and fall, and the resort's marina and boat slip infrastructure makes it a natural anchor for tournament participants. Summer holiday weekends — Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day — are Grand Lake's most intensely booked periods and require advance reservation months ahead for waterfront sites and cabin accommodations.
