Angels Camp RV Resort

Campground in Angels Camp, CA • 63 RV Sites

Angels Camp RV Camping Resort in Angels Camp, California, offers over 100 full-hookup sites, comfortable lodges, rustic cabins, and premium tent sites year-round in the Gold Country foothills of Calaveras County — a quiet, secure, family-friendly campground in the community made famous by Mark Twain's 1865 short story about the Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County and by the gold rush mining history that shaped the Mother Lode's physical and cultural character throughout the Sierra Nevada foothills. The resort's central Gold Country position in Angels Camp gives guests immediate access to the limestone caverns, historic state parks, and the New Melones Lake reservoir that constitute one of the most varied regional day-trip portfolios in the California Sierra foothills. Over 100 full-hookup sites accommodating the full range of RV configurations, lodge accommodations, rustic cabins, and tent camping areas give the resort the comprehensive accommodation breadth to serve family camping groups of all sizes and equipment situations, from tent campers on their first Gold Country trip to extended-stay full-timers who choose the Calaveras County foothills for their mild four-season climate and central California location. The year-round operation gives guests the flexibility to visit during the spring wildflower season, the summer cave and lake recreation period, and the fall color season equally. Pets are welcome. The Calaveras County caverns — Moaning Cavern, featuring a 165-foot-tall main chamber reachable by spiral staircase or rappel descent, and Mercer Caverns, with multiple chambers of stalactites, stalagmites, and cave helictites in one of California's most decorated limestone cave systems — provide the primary underground attraction that the Angel Camp area has sustained since prospectors first discovered the cavern entrances in the gold rush era. The combination of two distinct cave systems with different tour formats within 15 miles of the campground gives guests the specific underground geology experience that the Gold Country limestone terrain produces in Calaveras County with unusual density. Columbia State Historic Park, 30 miles north of Angels Camp in Tuolumne County, preserves the most complete surviving gold rush commercial district in California — a living history state park where costumed rangers and volunteers operate period businesses, the Wells Fargo office, and the blacksmith shop in genuine 1850s-era buildings that give visitors a functioning rather than merely preserved interpretation of Mother Lode commercial life at the height of California's gold rush. The Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee, held annually in Angels Camp in May, maintains the Mark Twain competition that gave the town its literary identity — the world frog jumping championship attracts competitors and spectators from across California and internationally. Angels Camp RV Camping Resort operates year-round in Calaveras County's moderate Gold Country climate, where the 1,379-foot elevation moderates summer temperatures below the Central Valley while the low-elevation winter keeps the campground accessible without the snow closures that the higher Sierra foothills experience. New Melones Lake, 10 miles northwest, provides the primary Gold Country water recreation — boating, water skiing, fishing for rainbow trout and kokanee salmon, and the hiking and equestrian access to the lake's wooded reservoir shores. Reserve sites ahead for the May Jumping Frog Jubilee and summer holiday weekends when Gold Country campground inventory fills from the Central Valley and Bay Area leisure travel market.
