Fairgrounds RV Park - WI

Campground in Beaver Dam, WI • 119 RV Sites

On 60 acres of the Dodge County Fairgrounds four miles east of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin—on Highway 33 in the agricultural lakelands that define south-central Wisconsin's character between Madison and Milwaukee—Fairgrounds RV Park provides a practical, well-maintained full hookup camping facility that serves both overnight travelers on the US-151 and Wisconsin Highway 33 corridors and visitors specifically drawn to the Horicon Marsh ecosystem that makes this corner of Wisconsin one of the most significant wildlife observation destinations in the Upper Midwest. The park's 50 sites span 30 and 50-amp service with unlimited-length pull-through configurations, and the Horicon National Wildlife Refuge and Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area—collectively forming the largest freshwater cattail marsh in the United States—are the destination that brings birders, naturalists, and outdoor enthusiasts specifically to the Beaver Dam area during spring and fall migration. The campground's 50 sites include four full hookup 50-amp back-in positions, 30 pull-through sites with 50-amp service, and six pull-through sites with 30-amp service. The unlimited-length pull-through positions accommodate the large fifth wheels and Class A motorhomes that frequently transit the Wisconsin highway system, and the site configuration eliminates the backing anxiety that shorter sites and tighter campground layouts impose on drivers of the largest rigs. Electric hookups, water, sewer, a dump station, restrooms, showers, and WiFi at select sites complete the utility infrastructure. Picnic shelters, a pet-friendly policy, and the fairground's 60-acre open grounds—suitable for walking, running, and biking with the open space that urban campgrounds fundamentally can't provide—round out the property's practical amenity profile. The Dodge County Fairgrounds setting provides the infrastructure of a functioning agricultural fair venue between the county fair dates, which means the campground benefits from well-maintained grounds, adequate parking and utility infrastructure built to handle event crowds, and the open-space character of a fairground campus rather than the compressed density of a commercial campground built specifically for RV parking. The surrounding agricultural landscape of Dodge County—one of Wisconsin's most productive dairy and crop farming counties—gives the setting the working-farm character that defines the south-central Wisconsin landscape. Horicon Marsh is the primary natural destination that elevates a Fairgrounds RV Park stay from a convenient overnight to a meaningful outdoor experience. The 32,000-acre marsh complex—managed jointly by the Wisconsin DNR as Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area and by the US Fish & Wildlife Service as Horicon National Wildlife Refuge—supports one of the most spectacular waterfowl migration events in the interior of the United States. Spring migration brings Canada geese by the hundreds of thousands through the marsh, and the fall movement reverses the process with the spectacle of geese rising from the marsh at dawn and returning at dusk in numbers that visitors who witness it for the first time consistently describe as one of the most impressive wildlife events they have encountered. The marsh also supports breeding populations of yellow-headed blackbirds, great egrets, great blue herons, and the full spectrum of North American marsh bird species. Fairgrounds RV Park is open seasonally from approximately April through October in alignment with the Wisconsin camping season. The spring and fall migration periods at Horicon are the most dramatic natural events in the regional calendar and should time the visit for guests with birding and wildlife interests. Beaver Dam's downtown commercial district provides dining and provisioning options within easy driving range. Reserve your pull-through site for the fall Canada goose migration and let the Horicon Marsh make the case for south-central Wisconsin's underappreciated natural heritage.
