Eastern Slope Camping Area Inc

Campground in Conway, NH • 182 RV Sites

At Route 16 in Conway, New Hampshire—in the Mount Washington Valley at the southern gateway to the White Mountain National Forest where the Saco River winds through the valley floor, North Conway's factory outlet retail district and ski resort access anchor the commercial tourism economy, and Mount Washington's 6,288-foot summit—the highest point in the northeastern United States and site of the fastest wind speed ever recorded by surface instruments (231 mph, April 12, 1934)—rises at the valley's northern end—Eastern Slope Camping Area provides 245 sites on 36 acres, two river beaches, a heated pool, canoe and kayak rentals, hayrides, an on-site general store, cable television, and the shuttle access that positions the campground as one of the most comprehensively amenitied Saco River camping locations in the Mount Washington Valley market. The Saco River frontage with two swimming beaches and the canoe rental are the site-specific amenities; Mount Washington and the White Mountain trail network are the reason that the regional camp itinerary works. Two hundred forty-five sites—over 100 with full hookups and 48 pull-through configurations—all equipped with fire rings, picnic tables, water, and electric connections serve the full spectrum of camping accommodation from self-contained motorhomes to tent campers across 36 riverside acres. Two river beaches on the Saco provide the natural freshwater swimming that the Mount Washington Valley's clean, cold river produces in the specific flat-water swimming hole that Conway's broader river floodplain creates between the faster upstream sections and the quieter downstream meanders. A heated pool supplements the river swimming for the days when the Saco's early summer chill or late season temperature makes the pool the preferred option. Canoe and kayak rentals serve the flatwater paddling access on the Saco's Conway reach. An on-site general store, laundry, dump station, recreation hall, and pet-friendly policies complete the practical infrastructure. Hayrides, kids' activities, and themed weekend events provide the organized programming calendar. A campground shuttle helps guests coordinate transportation for out-and-back hikes and the North Conway commercial corridor access. Mount Washington's summit trail, the Cog Railway, and the Mount Washington Auto Road provide three separate ways to reach the summit that New England weather records, the Presidential Range traverse, and the Observatory Museum make the most visited mountain destination in the Northeast. The Auto Road's 7.6-mile toll road to the summit—with its Hiker's Shame bumper sticker for those who drive rather than hike—provides the fastest access to the summit views that on a clear day extend across five states and into Canada. North Conway's commercial district provides the factory outlet retail concentration that has made the town simultaneously a ski resort base, a hiking gateway, and an outlet shopping destination—the three-audience combination that fills the Mount Washington Valley year-round when each of the three audiences is independently generating visitor demand. Story Land in Glen, New Hampshire—a children's theme park built around fairy tale characters since 1954—provides the family-oriented entertainment alternative for the youngest visitors who haven't yet developed the trail stamina that White Mountain hiking typically requires. Eastern Slope Camping Area is open seasonally through the Mount Washington Valley's camping calendar. Summer represents the Saco River recreation and hiking peak. Fall foliage across the White Mountain National Forest—typically the last two weeks of September through mid-October—fills the Mount Washington Valley with leaf-peeping visitors at a density that rivals ski season demand. Reserve early for the foliage peak weekends, pack the trail map, and let the Saco River beaches and the Presidential Range summit deliver what New Hampshire's highest elevation camping gateway consistently offers across the seasons.
