At 51931 Silver Valley Road in Kellogg, Idaho—at an easy on-off access point from Interstate 90 in the Silver Valley where the Coeur d'Alene mining district's historic silver lode, Silver Mountain Resort's single-longest gondola ride in North America, and the Route of the Hiawatha's 15-mile rail-trail through three mountain tunnels and seven high trestles create one of the most activity-rich mountain town environments accessible from a direct I-90 exit in the northern Rockies—Crystal Gold Mine RV Park puts 14 paved full hookup sites directly adjacent to an operating underground gold mine tour. Gem mining, gold panning, the mine tour, the gondola, and the rail trail are all accessible from the same base; the 14 sites are the smallest footprint of any campground in this guide, which makes the concentration of on-property activities per site all the more remarkable. Fourteen full hookup sites on paved surfaces provide 30 and 50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections in a big-rig-friendly, pull-through-accessible layout that the property's I-90 frontage road access makes simple to navigate with any rig configuration. Restrooms, laundry facilities, picnic tables, fire circles, grills, and a firewood vendor provide the site-level daily infrastructure. A dump station serves guests with self-contained units, and limited WiFi addresses the connectivity need. The property's immediate adjacency to the Crystal Gold Mine's underground tour facility is the defining amenity—guests can walk from the campsite to the mine entrance without driving, combining the convenience of RV infrastructure with the specific attraction of an authentic historic gold mine experience that the Silver Valley's century-plus mining heritage produced. The Crystal Gold Mine's underground tour provides the specific Coeur d'Alene mining district experience that distinguishes the Silver Valley from any other mountain I-90 corridor. The tour enters the actual mine workings through a portal in the hillside and follows the veins of ore through tunnels that working miners cut by hand and machine in the era when the Coeur d'Alene mining district was producing a disproportionate share of the world's silver output. Gem mining for crystals, minerals, and semi-precious stones at the adjacent mining area, and gold panning in the sluice boxes, provide the hands-on take-home experience that families with children specifically seek. Silver Mountain Resort's gondola—ascending 3,400 vertical feet in 18 minutes on the longest single-stage gondola in North America—provides the mountain summit access for hiking, mountain biking on the resort's trail network, and winter skiing and snowboarding. Silver Rapids indoor waterpark at the mountain base provides the waterpark alternative for guests who want aquatic recreation in the Silver Valley's mountain climate. The Route of the Hiawatha, accessible from the East Portal trailhead 15 miles east of Kellogg, provides the 15-mile downhill rail-trail experience through the tunnels and trestles of the defunct Milwaukee Road railroad corridor that cycling publications consistently rank among the top rail-trails in the Pacific Northwest. Crystal Gold Mine RV Park is open year-round in the Silver Valley's four-season climate. Summer brings the mine tour, gem mining, gondola hiking, and the Hiawatha cycling season. Winter converts Silver Mountain to one of the Pacific Northwest's finest powder ski destinations. Reserve your paved pull-through, book the mine tour for the morning after arrival, and let the Coeur d'Alene mining district earn its reputation as one of the most historically layered and recreationally varied mountain communities on Interstate 90.
