Along the Tallulah River at the foot of Georgia's most dramatic geological feature, River Falls at the Gorge in Lakemont provides one of the only riverside RV campgrounds in northeast Georgia with 141 camping sites spread across both river-frontage and mountainside positions—a year-round campground where tubing, fishing, kayaking, and river swimming in the Tallulah's clear mountain water sits 1.5 miles from the rim of Tallulah Gorge, one of the most spectacular natural landmarks in the American Southeast. Cabin rentals, treehouse accommodations, a tiny cabin option, and tent sites complete the accommodation spectrum for guests who choose the Rabun County mountain river corridor as their northeast Georgia mountain destination. One hundred forty-one sites along the Tallulah River and mountainside accommodate RV, tent, and specialty camping with the river frontage and mountain views that make Rabun County's outdoor recreation environment feel categorically different from the flatwoods campgrounds that characterize much of Georgia's interior. Cabin rentals and treehouse accommodations add the experiential lodging dimension that the northeast Georgia mountain market increasingly demands, and two clean bathhouses, a swimming pool, and river swimming provide the aquatic recreation that makes summer camping in the Georgia mountains most comfortable. Free Wi-Fi in the upper clubhouse, a massive fireplace, two large flat-screen TVs, and a community reading nook complete the social infrastructure for guests who want indoor gathering space after a full day on the river. The Tallulah River's current through the campground's riverside sites provides the tubing, fishing, and swimming that define the Rabun County outdoor recreation tradition—a cold mountain river fed by the Tallulah Gorge's headwaters that stays refreshingly cool through Georgia's summer heat when most rivers in the state become too warm for comfortable swimming. Guided and self-guided tubing runs, kayaking through the river's calmer sections, and fly and spin fishing for the rainbow trout and bass that the Tallulah supports in its upper reaches give guests multiple simultaneous activities on the water every day of the season. Tallulah Gorge State Park, 1.5 miles from the campground, preserves one of the most spectacular natural features in the eastern United States—a 2-mile gorge up to 1,000 feet deep carved by the Tallulah River through the granite and quartzite of the Rabun County uplands. The park's rim trail, suspension bridge spanning the gorge floor, and the permitted hike into the gorge provide access to one of the most visually dramatic landscapes in the Southeast, and the state park's scheduled white-water release events—on certain spring and fall Saturdays when the flood gates are opened for kayaking—draw experienced paddlers and spectators to Tallulah's legendary hydraulics. Rabun County's mountain climate provides comfortable four-season camping with summer temperatures noticeably cooler than Atlanta's heat and fall foliage peaking in October across the Blue Ridge escarpment ridges surrounding Lakemont. The campground's year-round operation gives it a shoulder-season utility that many summer-focused competitors cannot match—spring wildflower season from March through April provides the most colorful hiking conditions on the Tallulah Gorge rim trail, and winter's quiet delivers the most solitary river experience for fishing and wildlife observation. Lake Rabun and the other mountain lakes of the Rabun County reservoir system provide the additional boating, bass fishing, and swimming that extend the outdoor recreation calendar beyond the river season.
