Fishermans Wharf

Campground in Oxnard, CA • 30 RV Sites

Fisherman's Wharf at Channel Islands Harbor offers a genuinely rare urban coastal RV experience—paved sites positioned directly on the water at Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard, California, where the harbor's protected anchorage, sportfishing fleet, and restaurant district create a waterfront environment that most coastal California RV camping cannot match. The simple, paved waterfront parking-style layout is exactly what it represents: uncomplicated RV accommodation at the water's edge in a harbor that functions simultaneously as a working sportfishing port, recreational marina, and coastal visitor destination on the Southern California coast between Malibu and Santa Barbara. Paved, level RV sites provide full hookups with water and electric alongside the harbor's working waterfront, with boat docks, a boat ramp, and beach access in immediate proximity to the sites. Dining along the harbor—the Channel Islands Harbor restaurant cluster includes seafood establishments with direct water views, the kind of marina dining that takes advantage of the sportfishing fleet's daily catch—is within easy walking distance or a short drive along the harbor road. The property is pet-friendly, and the harbor's protected water gives the campground a relatively wind-sheltered position compared to the exposed coastal sites that characterize most Southern California ocean-adjacent camping. Channel Islands Harbor is one of the largest recreational harbors in California, home to over 2,000 boat slips and the primary point of departure for charter fishing trips targeting bluefin tuna, yellowtail, halibut, and rockfish in the Santa Barbara Channel. The sportfishing culture of Oxnard and Port Hueneme is embedded in the harbor's character—early morning departures, the smell of brine and diesel, the professional captains and experienced deckhands who make the Southern California party boat fishing industry one of the most active in the country—and staying at Fisherman's Wharf puts guests in the middle of it rather than observing from a distance. Channel Islands National Park is the defining natural attraction in the immediate area. The park protects five islands off the Ventura and Santa Barbara coast—Anacapa, Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa, San Miguel, and Santa Barbara—in a marine environment that the National Park Service has described as the Galápagos of North America for the density and uniqueness of its wildlife. Ferry services from Ventura Harbor, about 15 minutes from the campground, provide access to the islands for day hikes, sea kayaking in the kelp forest, snorkeling, and wildlife observation that includes elephant seals, island foxes, and brown pelicans in one of the most ecologically intact coastal environments in Southern California. Fisherman's Wharf operates in the Southern California coastal climate where Oxnard's proximity to the Pacific provides natural cooling that keeps temperatures moderate year-round—summer high temperatures at the harbor rarely exceed 75 degrees, making it one of the cooler camping options in inland Southern California summers. Ventura is 15 minutes north, Santa Barbara 45 minutes north, and the Los Angeles basin is accessible to the south for those who want urban amenity access from a waterfront coastal base. The harbor's ongoing revitalization planning promises additional dining and retail development that will further enhance the waterfront experience surrounding the campground.
