On 175 acres of Lake Tawakoni shoreline 50 miles east of Dallas, Anchor Inn Marina & Resort in Quinlan delivers a genuine lakefront resort experience with two miles of shoreline, two boat ramps, seven lakefront cabins, 11 motel rooms, fishing piers, a fish cleaning station, and shaded RV sites—a multi-element property that serves anglers, boaters, families, and corporate retreat groups from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in a setting that combines the open sky and flat water of East Texas lake country with the relaxed, unhurried atmosphere that makes Lake Tawakoni one of the DFW area's best-kept outdoor recreation secrets. RV sites with water, sewer, and electric hookups sit along the lake's edge on shaded, scenic positions that take advantage of the two-mile shoreline the property controls. Pet-friendly accommodations across sites and cabins make the resort accessible for traveling families with dogs. The marina provides immediate boat launch access, and the fishing piers and fish cleaning station serve the serious angling community that has long recognized Lake Tawakoni as a productive destination for largemouth bass, white bass, and the blue and channel catfish that the lake's nutrient-rich waters support in exceptional numbers. Walking trails connect the resort's various structures and provide lakeside access for non-boating guests who want the waterfront experience on foot. Lake Tawakoni, impounded in 1960 on the Sabine River in Hunt, Rains, and Van Zandt Counties, covers approximately 36,700 acres with 376 miles of shoreline—a scale that makes it one of the larger public water supply reservoirs in northeast Texas while simultaneously supporting the bass fishing, water skiing, and weekend boating culture that has made it a regional recreation destination for the DFW metropolitan area. The lake's shallow, turbid water produces the large blue catfish and the schooling white bass that draw tournament anglers from across the state, and the largemouth bass fishery is consistently ranked among the better urban-access fisheries in Texas. Lake Tawakoni State Park, on the lake's south shore, provides the hiking, camping, and wildlife observation complement to the boating-focused Anchor Inn resort experience for guests who want both park programming and marina access during a single stay. The surrounding Hunt County countryside—rolling post oak savannah and blackland prairie with scattered lake communities—provides the quiet rural atmosphere that makes a lake getaway effective as a restorative counterpoint to the Dallas metro environment. Canton, home of First Monday Trade Days—the world's oldest and largest flea market, held the weekend before the first Monday of every month—is 30 minutes southeast. Anchor Inn Marina and Resort operates year-round on a lake that provides good fishing in every season, with the bass spawning period in spring producing the year's most exciting shallow-water action and the winter catfish bite offering its own rewards for the cold-weather angler. Summer brings maximum boat traffic and the warmest swimming and skiing conditions; fall offers the bass fishery's pre-spawn feeding period and the comfortable temperatures that make East Texas outdoor recreation genuinely pleasant. Reserve your site or cabin at Anchor Inn and let Lake Tawakoni's generous two-mile shoreline be the backdrop for a genuinely memorable DFW-area lake escape.
