Stone Mountain Park Campground

Campground in Stone Mountain, GA • 300 RV Sites

At the foot of one of the most distinctive geological features in the eastern United States, Stone Mountain Park Campground offers 250 full and partial hookup sites with big-rig access, free WiFi, and immediate proximity to the family entertainment and natural spectacle that have made Stone Mountain Park one of Georgia's most visited destinations for decades. Located within the park's 3,200-acre property just 16 miles east of downtown Atlanta, the campground combines the convenience of a metro Atlanta location with the natural and recreational attractions of one of the Southeast's most recognizable landscapes. Whether you're here for the granite dome, the laser show, or the full family experience, the campground puts you inside the action. Sites accommodate RVs of all sizes with full or partial hookups, and most come with a picnic table, grill, and fire ring for classic campsite evenings. Heated comfort stations with laundry facilities maintain comfortable standards, and a seasonal swimming pool, sand volleyball court, children's playground, and on-site general store round out the practical and recreational amenities. The campground's wooded setting provides meaningful shade and natural character despite its metropolitan location, and pet-friendly policies mean traveling families with dogs can enjoy the park's extensive trail network alongside their human companions. Stone Mountain itself is a dome of exposed granite rising 825 feet above the surrounding Georgia Piedmont—a pluton of metamorphic rock formed deep underground 300 million years ago and since exposed by the erosion of the overlying landscape. The famous Confederate Memorial Carving on the mountain's north face is the largest bas-relief sculpture in the world, larger even than Mount Rushmore, and represents the park's most controversial and discussed feature. The surrounding 3,200 acres of park property encompass several lakes, miles of trails, and the varied Piedmont landscape of pine, oak, and hickory forest that covers most of northern Georgia outside the Blue Ridge. The park's family attractions include the Summit Skyride—a cable car ascending to the mountain's flat summit with panoramic views extending to the Atlanta skyline on clear days—plus the 4D Theater, Sky Hike aerial adventure course, Geyser Towers splash pad, Great Locomotive Chase Adventure Golf, and the scenic railroad circling the mountain's base. The Lasershow Spectacular, running from spring through fall, projects a dazzling 45-minute display of laser effects and fireworks onto the mountain's carving face in a show that has become a Georgia summer tradition. The historic Stone Mountain Village outside the park gates offers additional dining and shopping options. Spring and fall offer the most comfortable outdoor temperatures for exploring the park's trails and attractions, though the Lasershow season runs March through October and remains the primary draw for evening events. Summer is peak season—arrive early at the park's attractions and plan outdoor activities for morning hours before Georgia's heat builds. The campground's proximity to Atlanta makes it an unusual metro-area camping option that gives families an outdoor base without sacrificing access to the city's world-class cultural institutions. Book your site at Stone Mountain Park Campground and experience one of Georgia's most iconic natural landmarks at dawn, when the granite dome glows in the morning light before the crowds arrive.
