The Bunkhouse Cabins and RV Park

Campground in Walters, OK • 16 RV Sites

The Bunkhouse Cabins and RV Park in Walters, Oklahoma, provides full-service cabins and RV accommodations in Cotton County's southwestern Oklahoma landscape — a well-equipped rural campground that positions guests between the Wichita Mountains' dramatic granite-and-plains ecosystem to the north and the broader outdoor recreation of the Cache Creek and Red River country to the south, with a combination of practical amenities and friendly small-town hospitality that reflects the specific character of a southwestern Oklahoma community property built for genuine guest comfort rather than amenity-list optimization. Cabins with a home-like interior character and spacious RV sites with full hookups and 50-amp service accommodate big rigs and oversized rigs without the tight-clearance maneuvering that smaller rural campgrounds require. The pet-friendly policy serves traveling guests with dogs, and the practical service infrastructure — Wi-Fi, trash service, and a dump station — covers the daily logistics of RV travel in the rural Oklahoma corridor. The campground's overall character is clean, comfortable, and oriented toward guests who value genuine hospitality over amenity complexity. Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, north of Walters in Comanche County, is one of the most ecologically significant federal wildlife refuges in the southern Great Plains — a remnant landscape of ancient granite inselbergs, native grass prairie, and the wildlife populations that were specifically reintroduced to restore the pre-European prairie ecosystem. American bison, Texas longhorn cattle, elk, white-tailed deer, and prairie dogs coexist in an environment where the Wichita granite domes provide dramatic visual contrast to the flat plains surrounding them. The hiking trails across Elk Mountain, Charon's Garden Wilderness, and the Doris Campground area provide terrain access that consistently surprises visitors expecting Oklahoma flatlands. Quartz Mountain State Park and Lodge, west of Altus along Lake Altus-Lugert, provides additional southwestern Oklahoma outdoor recreation in a setting where the quartz-capped mountains rising from the wheat and cattle country of Greer County create dramatic geological scenery accessible by hiking trails and visible from the state park's lodge and marina. The park's marina and lake fishing infrastructure make Quartz Mountain a viable multi-day outdoor destination in its own right. Lake Frederick, near the campground, offers local fishing and boating access for guests who want on-water recreation without the longer drive to the Wichita Mountains or Quartz Mountain. The Bunkhouse Cabins and RV Park serves guests year-round in southwestern Oklahoma's four-season climate, where spring wildflower season in the Wichita Mountains from late March through May produces remarkable wildflower displays across the refuge's native grasslands and the granite mountain meadows. The Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge's annual longhorn cattle drive and bison roundup events draw visitors interested in the refuge's working wildlife management operations to specific seasonal dates worth planning around. Fall brings comfortable temperatures and good wildlife viewing conditions across the refuge's open terrain. Reserve cabin accommodations ahead for spring Wichita Mountains season and any organized refuge event dates.
