Nine Mile RV Resort

Campground in Wellington, UT • 42 RV Sites

Nine Mile RV Resort in Wellington, Utah, sits at the edge of Carbon County's high desert in the Book Cliffs region — a campground positioned as the last comfortable full-service stop before the Nine Mile Canyon corridor and the vast canyon country of the San Rafael Swell and Manti-La Sal highlands stretching east and south. Wellington's position along US-6 in the Price River Valley makes it a natural gateway stop for travelers entering one of Utah's most geologically spectacular and least-trafficked wilderness regions, and the resort's full-hookup infrastructure, pool, and hot tub provide the recovery amenities that extended canyon exploration genuinely requires. Full-hookup RV sites, a swimming pool, a hot tub and sauna, and a community fire pit give guests the comfort infrastructure for multi-night stays before and after backcountry excursions. The resort's year-round operational capacity makes it a viable base for the shoulder-season travelers who prefer Utah's canyon country outside the summer crowds, and the Price River Valley's dry, high-desert climate provides the cool evenings that make late spring and fall canyon exploration so physically pleasant. Pets are welcome. Nine Mile Canyon, accessed from Wellington, holds one of the most extraordinary concentrations of prehistoric rock art in the western United States — thousands of Fremont Culture and Ute petroglyphs and pictographs etched and painted on the canyon's sandstone walls across a 40-mile corridor that has been called "the world's longest art gallery." The density and quality of the imagery — human figures, hunting scenes, spirals, and abstract designs spanning roughly 2,000 years of occupation — makes a slow drive through the canyon one of the most archaeologically rewarding experiences available in the Four Corners region. Jurassic National Monument, established in 2019 in Carbon County's fossil-rich terrain, protects the Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry — one of the most productive predatory dinosaur fossil sites ever excavated, with remains from over 70 individual allosaurus among the 12,000-plus bones recovered from the site. The quarry's concentration of predator fossils raises scientific questions about Morrison Formation paleobiology that remain actively debated, and the visitor experience of standing above an active quarry floor in a quarry excavated since 1931 is genuinely singular. The College of Eastern Utah Prehistoric Museum in Price, just north of Wellington, provides the interpretive context for the region's paleontological wealth in a small-city natural history museum with collections that punch well above its geographic weight. Nine Mile RV Resort operates year-round, with spring and fall representing the most comfortable seasons for canyon exploration and rock art touring. Summer heat in the Nine Mile Canyon corridor is substantial — early morning canyon drives before 10 AM are far more comfortable than midday excursions in July and August. Winter stays are feasible in Wellington's relatively sheltered valley position. The combination of Nine Mile Canyon's archaeological depth and Jurassic National Monument's paleontological significance makes Carbon County one of Utah's most underrated destination regions, and Nine Mile RV Resort its most practical gateway.
