Introduction

Situated along the fast-flowing Green River is Nairn Falls Provincial Park, a 1.7 sq. km (0.7 sq. mile) park with a rich cultural and natural history, perfect for RV camping holidays. Located off Highway 99, 32 km (20 miles) north of Whistler, and within Pemberton Village, this provincial park which has long been a spiritual site for the Lil’wat Nation features beautiful rocks shaped by the erosive power of water.

Activities to enjoy at the park while on RV vacation include hiking, wildlife observation, fishing, flora viewing, cycling, picnicking, and photography. Other activities that campers can engage in within the Pemberton area include horseback riding, mountain biking and river rafting. The park features 94 RV campsites, restrooms, pit toilet, a day-use/picnic area with picnic tables, drinking water pumps, wheelchair accessible areas, fire pits, a viewing platform, and an Information Center. There is a sanitary station located at the full-service tourist information center.

Nairn Falls Provincial Park, established in 1966 and located at a height of 40 m (131 feet), is a good base camp for exploring the Pemberton Valley, Whistler, or the nearby Garibaldi Provincial Park.

Nairn Falls is a double waterfall connected by a small canyon, and the falls in the park are 60 m (197 feet) high.

Transportation

Driving

Located off Highway 99, 32 km (20 miles) north of Whistler, and within Pemberton Village, Nairn Falls Provincial Park is easy to access by RVs, trailers, and other motorized vehicles, since it is a simple drive-in park. All parts of the park are easy to navigate via the local paved roads that connect them. There are no driving restrictions within the park.

Parking

There is one large parking area in Nairn Falls Provincial Park for RVs, trailers, and cars, located just around the park entrance. RV campers can also park their rigs at their designated campsites in the park. Overnight parking is also available.

Public Transportation

Bus line 99 stops near Nairn Falls Provincial Park, while BC Transit – Whistler Transit Systems provides daily public bus service to the park from Whistler.

Reservations camping

Nairn Falls Campground

Nairn Falls Campground in Nairn Falls Provincial Park features 94 standard pet-friendly campsites available for RVs and tents. There are no electric RV hookups in the campground. RV length limit at the campground is 32 feet (10 m), however RV vacationers with larger rigs can call the park ahead to find out if space is available. The campground features picnic tables and fire pits, as well as restrooms, drinking water pumps, pit toilets, and access to trailheads. The closest store is in Pemberton, approximately 3 km (1.9 miles) away. Quiet hours are 10 pm to 7 am.

92 of the campsites in the campground are reservable, while the remaining 2 are available on first-come first-served basis.

Off-Season

Picnicking

Nairn Falls Provincial Park has a dedicated day-use/picnic area uniquely situated to offer great waterfront views for RV campers to enjoy outdoor meals with family and friends. The picnic area is equipped with picnic tables, and has pit toilets nearby.

Cycling

Nairn Falls Provincial Park offers cycling opportunities for RV campers that visit the park with their bicycles. On their bicycles, campers enjoy the views of the entire park as they ride along the roads. All cycling in the park is however limited to the park’s roads, as the hiking trails are closed to cyclists.

Flora

Nairn Falls Provincial Park features resplendent flora, including a mixed forest of western redcedar, western hemlock, and coastal Douglas fir. Other flora in the park include western flowering pacific dogwood, a protected species and the floral emblem for British Columbia. All these beautiful flora in the park offer RV campers amazing views.

Fishing

There are amazing fishing opportunities at Nairn Falls Provincial Park for RV campers that enjoy angling while on vacation. The Green River is a good place for campers to enjoy fly fishing, and fish species that can be caught in the river includes rainbow trout, bull trout, and landlocked sockeye salmon. An appropriate fishing license is required to fish in Nairn Falls Provincial Park.

Wildlife Viewing

Nairn Falls Provincial Park is home to amazing wildlife, particularly the rubber boa, which is one of the most cold-tolerant snake species. The rubber boa in the park has an average length of 45 cm (18 inches), but can be quite difficult to see because it is nocturnal and has blending colors with its environment. Other wildlife in the area include squirrel, gray jay, raccoon, and raven.

The park features a wildlife viewing platform from where some of the wildlife can be seen in the park.

Hiking

Nairn Fall Provincial Park offers interesting hiking opportunities for RV campers on vacation at the park. There are two hiking trails in the park; Nairn Falls Trail, and Coudre Point. Nairn Falls Trail is a 3 km (1.9 mile) trail that offers campers the opportunity to access the traditional route used by the Lil’wat Nation to access Mount Currie and Nairn Falls. The trail features steep banks and drop offs, making it strenuous, and hence requiring hikers to exercise caution. Coudre Point Trail takes hikers along the riparian areas and Green River’s banks offering campers scenic views of the river. The One Mile Lake Trail, a 2 km (1.2 mile) trail, is located north of Nairn Falls Campground by the One Mile Lake.
