I have converted this van from a passenger van to a cargo van. There are two captain chairs up front, but the bench seat has been removed. My Honda rancher easily fits inside with plenty of room for a cooler, foam pad, etc. I use the winch on my rancher to pull the atv into the van.
Without the atv you can put a mattress on the floor and sleep very comfy. Swivel the captain chairs 180 degrees and watch a movie. If you’re willing to shower and cook outside and use a public toilet, this van will haul all of your toys.
There are many roads in Yellowstone park that don’t allow travel trailers or motor homes, but travel vans are OK. Urban camping is easy in a travel van, as is dispersed (dry) camping. If you don’t have a camping reservation for the park you’re probably out of luck, or you can sleep in my van at the Old Faithful Inn parking lot. Also it’s hard to beat the 18 mpg the van offers. Soooo many advantages this van offers!
What's includedThis van comes with a cooler, small table, one burner stove, and camping chairs. Use the cigarette lighter to charge your cell phone and other electronics, or rent my Aeiusny 500w AC/DC power station.
With the provided magnets and tarp, you can also set up an outdoor shower.
RecommendationsI use this van to go camping with my atv (St Anthony sand dunes), with my mountain bike (Jackson Hole), with my paddle board (Island Park), and to go camping before longer day hikes (Table Rock campground). It’s also great for tailgating.Other things to noteIf you check the oil and other fluids daily, and keep your speed under 55mph, this van will take you anywhere you want to go.

I love to paddle board in the summer, and snowboard in the winter. My wife and I enjoy spending time with our family. My philosophy in life is “less is more”. I try to enjoy today and save a little for tomorrow.

He is the kindest, most helpful owner I could work with. When the van battery died, he made phone calls and actively attempted to get it fixed.

Kelly made this an easy and convenient trip for me. I appreciated the mattress and down comforter! This van was just what I needed.

Ol Bessie may not be for everyone, but she sure was the perfect ride for our small backpacking crew to park hop between Grand Teton and Yellowstone. If you are looking for a luxury vehicle with air conditioning, heated seats, navigation, and a fancy Apple CarPlay setup, this is NOT for you. But, if you are looking to experience the Wild West in a unique perspective, thru the large panel windows of a nostalgic piece of Americana, the the 92 Chevy Mark III could fit the bill. Bessie the van drove like a dream and handled the road like a champ. There was plenty of room for 5 guys and our backpacking gear, and we were completely comfortable with all the windows open for a breeze, even with no AC on 80-90 degree days in the sun. Kelly was super accommodating in making sure the van was where we needed, when we needed it, and it had everything locked and loaded to make sure our trip was everything we planned and more! Don’t forget your cassette adapter for your tunes, and you will feel as free as a bird in this old gal! We couldn’t imagine having our Wyoming national park experience any other way!

If you are looking for state of the art and pristine conditions, this van is not for you, BUTTT, if you are like me and are looking for a bed and some nice "indoor space" to use at a trailhead area or similar, this is what you are needing! Kelly went way above and beyond (he actually help me out with some extra things he could have charged for, but didn't). Super helpful and cared about my experience. I'd rather support the local man then the mega car rental companies. So... two thumbs up from me!!

Have a question?Get answers directly from the host

Q.What flexibility is available for picking up and dropping off the RV?
A.
You can leave your auto at my home if you don’t want to pay parking charges. I can provide pick up or drop off at the Idaho Falls airport ($20.00) if you’re without transportation.

Q.What are the disadvantages to van camping?
A.
A large RV offers a bed, couch, toilet, shower and food preparation. Most vans offer a bed, couch, and food preparation. Your toilet and shower are outside or in a public restroom. Electronic devices now provide entertainment and are easily powered via the van.

Q.Are there any advantages to van camping?
A.
Most vans can easily pull a trailer. This provides entertainment from boats, side by sides, or anything else you want to pull. For me the question is “Will I spend my camping time outside having fun or inside watching TV?” This van is also less expensive than most trailers, is set up for a TV, and is extremely comfortable during travel.

Q.Wouldn’t it be cheaper to own than to rent?
A.
Maybe. Do the math. If you own a $10,000 van and it’s paid off, your cost of depreciation is probably about $1000 per year. If you rent this van for $180 for the weekend, you could spend five weekends a year and pay less than the cost of depreciation. If you plan on going camping for more than 16 nights a year for the next 10 years, buy a van. If not, rent a van.
