The Great Outdoors

The San Tan Mountain Regional Park is the closest state park to Chandler. The 10,000-acre park is made up of open desert and is home to a vast variety of wildlife, multiple plant species, such as the crested saguaro, and cacti. At the park entrance, there's a visitor center hosting wildlife exhibitions. One of the most popular hiking routes is the San Tan Loop Trail. This trail is approximately 7.4 miles long and suitable for people with a moderate fitness as it includes 550 feet of uphill walking. You can drive your Chandler motorhome rental and leave it in the visitors' car park while exploring the park.

To see almost untouched examples of Sonoran Desert, take the Chandler RV rental southwest on the Interstate 8 to the Sonoran Desert National Monument. Here you can search for wildlife on walking and mountain biking trails, join horseback riding excursions, or see the extensive desert landscape from the basket of a hot air balloon. The national monument is made up of three distinct wilderness areas and three mountain ranges, the Table Top Mountains, the Sand Tank, and the Maricopa, and is dotted with the remains of archaeological sites. This desert park is said to be one of the most biologically diverse in the whole of North America and visitors will be required to watch a safety briefing video and to stay on the designated trails while visiting.

Leaving behind the desert, Arizona is home to the three-million-acre Tonto National Forest. This is the fifth largest forest in the USA and filled with hiking routes through pine-clad forests. Other recreational activities available within the Tonto National Forest include canyoning, horseback riding, kayaking, paddle boarding, biking, boat tours, and ATV excursions. Visitors can also pick up an RV rental in Chandler and take the Young-Herber Road from the Sonoran Desert to the Tall Pines Scenic Byway. The route covers approximately 67 miles of the Tonto National Forest, from State Highway 188, passing through dry scrub and climbing over 5,000 feet through pine and conifer forests to the Mogollon Rim.

For visitors of all ages, the MotorCoach Resort is on the outskirts of town and offers similar facilities with the exception of a swimming pool and recreation room. Trailers are not allowed at this site, however, there is free WiFi available and an area for pets.

If you’re looking for an RV park outside of the city center, there is an abundance of them at the edge of the Tonto National Forest. One of the most highly recommended is the Usery Mountain Regional Park in Mesa. While the camp facilities are slightly more basic, it does offer visitors front door access to hiking trails in the southern region of the park.

The city also hosts the Chandler Skatepark, an ice skating rink, and 60 recreational parks and, for visitors who like to take a walk, there’s the Veterans Oasis Park, featuring the Chandler Solar System Walk.

Each month, Chandler hosts the Third Friday Art Walk, displaying the local works and culture of the city. February is one of the busiest months in Chandler as motor and science enthusiasts gather for the Chandler Classic Car Show and Science Saturday. Musicians and music lovers come for the Chandler Jazz Festival and sporting fans come to cheer on the runners of the SHE Power Half and Quarter Marathon.
