A "snowbirds'" community, Sun City is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area, about 25 miles north. It was constructed in the 1960s as a planned retirement community. For visitors, Sun City RV rentals by owner allow them to enjoy the happening culinary and nightlife scenes of Phoenix thanks to Sun Cities Area Transit (SCAT) and Valley Metro connections while putting them on the road to greater adventures ahead. RV rentals in Sun City, AZ allow both novice and seasoned RV campers to embark on a journey through Arizona's magnificent landscapes.

Discover Sun City

The Great Outdoors

Give your legs a serious workout on a hike up Camelback Mountain. You can leave your camper rental in Sun City and take the Valley Metro, or get your motorhome parked in Scottsdale less than six miles away. You'll need to be moderately fit to hike the trails as they’re steep, and the rocks loose, in some places. But the payoff is a commanding view of the Phoenix metro area.

Most travelers, however, come to Arizona to see not a molehill of a landscape but the grandest of them all. While Arizona has a clutch of incredible natural sites, very few places on earth come close to Grand Canyon as the ultimate outdoor destination.

Fortunately, your motorhome rental in Sun City will take you to this colossal crack on earth on a straightforward journey to the north. Simply take the I-17 to Flagstaff where you make a turn for the scenic Highway 180 that will take you to the South Rim entrance. Or, park your RV trailer rental from Sun City in Flagstaff and take the shuttle to Grand Canyon Village. Would you like to be much closer to the park entrance? Then stay in the Grand Canyon Village inside the park. Unlike the North Rim which is more remote and open only seasonally, the South Rim is open year-round.

If you're staying in Flagstaff, the spa and wellness resorts of Sedona are less than an hour's drive south in your Sun City luxury RV rental. Sedona has built an international reputation as a center of healing and meditation thanks in large part to its vortexes where natural electromagnetic earth energy intersect. But even if it's not what you came here for, the towering ochre rock formations of Cathedral Rock, the hiking trails of Oak Creek Canyon, and the namesake slides of the Slide Rock State Park are sure to rejuvenate your mind, body, and spirit.

RV Parks

As you are most likely headed to the Grand Canyon, you have two options on where to park your Sun City RV rental. You can park within city limits then take the daily shuttle from Phoenix to Flagstaff, and from Flagstaff onward to the Grand Canyon Village.

The Apollo Village RV Resort is a suitable place to park your RV rental near Sun City as it’s just a mile and a half away, with the closest Walmart and gas station within a three-mile radius. Fishing and golf are popular activities on site. Full hook-ups and dumping stations, along with other amenities such as laundry facilities, swimming pool, and clubhouse, make this a fantastic base in the greater Phoenix metro. While pets are welcome, certain breeds may not be allowed. Age restrictions also apply.

Driving RV rentals in Sun City, Arizona for a trip far north and into Utah is another option if staying close to Grand Canyon is high on your list. The Grand Canyon Village's Trailer Village is designed for RV campers who need full hook-ups, dump station and accessibility to a market. The campground is child and pet-friendly, and welcoming to wildlife too. Don’t be surprised to wake up to sights of elk and mule deer by your trailer door! There's a free park shuttle at the entrance and a gas station less than 15 minutes away.

To experience the remoteness of the Grand Canyon, plan to enter the park via the North Rim Parkway. The seasonally open (mid-May to mid-October) Kaibab Camper Village in Fredonia offers full hook-ups and is close to a full-service gas station and country store. From here, it’s 45 miles to the North Rim entrance.

Alternatively, if you plan on continuing your journey farther north to Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend, then camping right off Highway 89 opposite the Cameron Trading Post puts you much closer to those destinations. While the RV park is basic, it nonetheless offers full water, electricity and sewage hookups, and proximity to a gas station (right across the street) for motorhome rentals from Sun City.

Exploring the City

The greater Phoenix area is littered with golf courses, and you can find several in Sun City. If you're lucky, you may even find a semi-private club that's open to the public so you can enjoy the sport affordably.

When you book an RV in Sun City, you can stop by at the Del Webb Sun Cities Museum to see what décors looked like in the '60s. Catch a classic rock and roll concert at the Sundial Auditorium or weekend concerts at the Sun Bowl Open-Air Amphitheater. If you'd like to keep fit, the abundance of recreation centers with fitness facilities, swimming pools, indoor walking tracks, tennis halls and bowling centers should keep you occupied.

If you are into retro architecture, leave your Sun City campervan rental in a safe RV park nearby and slip into a golf cart for a drive along the wide-open streets as you travel back in time and gawk at '70s style homes with neat and inviting lawns.

Whether you’re planning to stay close and enjoy what Sun City has to offer or hit the road and explore, search for an RV in Sun City and start your adventure!
