Altadena, California is an unincorporated community in Los Angeles County and also a Census Designated Place, again for LA County. It is 8.73 square miles in size; its name was a combined form of the Spanish word “alta” (meaning “above”) and “dena” (taken from “Pasadena”). Several of the Altadena neighborhoods and landmarks are on the National Register of Historic Places, such as Christmas Tree Lane, the Mount Lowe Railway, and Gen. Charles S. Farnsworth County Park. Christmas Tree Lane also a California Historical Landmark; it was the very first immense outdoor Christmas tree lighting display in the world.
The subdivision of Altadena was created in 1887 but the land remained mostly agricultural, except for the development of mansions on Mariposa Street. Beginning around 1890, a small community was formed around Mariposa Street that would eventually become “Millionaire's Row”. The area began to attract millionaires starting with Andrew McNally in 1887. California government policies prevented African Americans from purchasing or owning land throughout much of the state, but Altadena was not one of these places, and it later became the first middle-class African American community in that area.

Visitors to Altadena are just a hop and a skip from Mt. San Antonio, one of the three tallest mountains in Southern California. This is not an easy hike, so climbers should be well prepared, but those who make it can stop at the ski hut for food and to take in the view. Nearby, Mt Baldy is an easier but still relatively difficult hike for those who wish to challenge themselves. These mountains can be climbed in the winter, but summer is better for safety reasons. Take your Altadena rental RV up to the parking lot and you will have your creature comforts waiting for you the moment your hike is done.
Angeles National Forest also offers hiking as well as trails for horse riding and off-road vehicles. This forest has an app that can be downloaded to your smartphone, providing you with up-to-date information, including warnings and road/forest closures. Those more interested in the scenery than the trails can take a drive through the park in their Altadena luxury RV rental; remember to keep your camera close at hand.
Heading in the other direction, sun worshippers can hit the water at Will Rogers State Beach. Here you will find beach volleyball courts, showers and a bike trail, but who needs a public shower when your Altadena motorhome rental is parked not far away and you can shower in your own mobile shower facility. There is also an on-site restaurant and lifeguards on hand.
Not far from Will Rogers, golfers who aren't too serious about their handicap (eg. the fun seekers in the crowd) can head to one of the dozens of golf courses in the area.
East Shore RV Park has sites with full hookup; some of these sites are pull through. It has 20/30/50-amp service, laundry facilities, two swimming pools (one for adults only and one for families), an on-site market and general store, lake fishing, basketball, volleyball and more. Staff arrange Easter Egg hunts and other activities all the time for their guests' enjoyment.
