Discover La Mirada, CA

La Mirada is one of California's gateway communities, towns and cities that are completely structured and planned out. It’s also a great destination to rent an RV. La Mirada was originally created by Andrew McNally (of Rand-McNally) and his son-in-law in 1888. In March 1960, the city was incorporated as Mirada Hills; voters changed its name to “La Mirada” in November, 1960, and the change was made official a month later.

La Mirada is part of southeast Los Angeles County; nearby cities include Lakewood, Long Beach, Pomona, Corona and Santa Ana. It is a small well-heeled community and home to some celebrities and athletes, such as Chase de Leo (NHL Anaheim Ducks), Jennie Finch (Olympic softball player), Tony Corrente (NFL referee), Keith McGill (NFL Oakland Raiders), Derrick Williams (NBA Sacramento Kings), Shotaro Omori (American figure skater) and Amber Riley (actor-singer from Glee). La Mirada and southeast LA County is the ideal place to do some people watching from the comfort of your La Mirada rental RV.

Getting out and about is easy when you book an RV in La Mirada, as visitors can choose between using public transit which is cheap and plentiful, taking taxis, or renting a car for a few days. Rental car agencies are numerous; many will even come to pick you up and deliver you back to your La Mirada RV rental after you have finished renting their vehicle. Gas stations are plentiful and easy to find. Supermarkets and local markets are everywhere, and there is at least one Walmart that has a parking lot that will accommodate RVs. Stop at any of these places to stock up on whatever you need before taking your La Mirada rental camper to its destination.

The Great Outdoors

It would be unthinkable to be in California and not enjoy the outdoors. To the north of La Mirada, there are numerous hiking trails and sightseeing spots. The city of Whittier is just north, and north of that you will find Whittier Turnbull Canyon Hiking Trail and Whittier Narrows Recreation Area. The recreation area has three lakes, a military museum, shooting ranges, horse center, disc golf & urban farm, while Turnbull Canyon has various trails that range from easy to more difficult and the opportunity to view animals in their natural environment. Parking at Turnbull Canyon is limited and nearby parking is permit only, so a taxi might be the best choice for getting there and back.

South of Turnbull Canyon is Arroyo Pescadero Trail; east of that is Powder Canyon, another two wonderful hiking destinations. Directly east of La Mirada is Carbon Canyon Regional Park and Chino Hills State Park.

This wouldn't be California without golf and La Mirada is no exception; it is also home to water parks, specialty museums and Cerritos Sculpture Garden, which is exactly what the name implies and a great opportunity for selfies and all other forms of photography. City sightseeing tours are available in Cypress and La Mirada (and probably in other cities as well).

RV Parks

There are a number of RV parks and resorts close to La Mirada. Southeast of the city you can find a few sites, like Anaheim Harbor RV Park and Anaheim RV Park; both are approximately nine miles away, and close to Disneyland. The city of Orange has Orangeland RV Park, about 10 miles southeast. Huntington Beach, 15 miles south, has Bolsa Chica State Beach, which is located right on the Pacific Coast Highway and probably shouldn’t be missed. Long Beach has Golden Shore RV Resort, 15 miles southwest of La Mirada, and Costa Mesa has the Orange County Fair & Events Center, 18 miles southeast. To the northeast about 15 miles, you can find the East Shore RV Park at San Dimas.

Most of these parks have at least basic hookups, and many have full hookups. Park and leave your La Mirada, CA motorhome rental at any of these sites, and have a comfortable spot to return to after each day's adventure.

Exploring The City

Some may think it strange to see a movie while on vacation, but La Mirada is technically in Hollywood's backyard. Find out which movie theaters are having special events and you just might get a chance to brush shoulders with some of Hollywood's royalty. If cinema isn't your thing, check out the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts and watch these exceptional performers live and in person. Many actors claim that the stage is their first love, due to its immediacy and connection to the audience; audience members will agree.

Those looking for the strange and unique will not want to miss Medieval Times Buena Park, a dinner theater event with, you guessed it, medieval themes. Knights joust for honor and minstrels sing songs about them. This is dinner and a show, so be prepared to spend some time here. If medieval is not your thing, Buena Park also has the Pirate Dinner Adventure.

La Mirada is no slouch when it comes to dining and it has a wide variety of cuisines to choose from, such as Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Mexican and more; what might make La Mirada memorable for first-time visitors are the chosen names of the locally owned and operated establishments. With names like “Rock and Brews” and “Cat and the Custard Cup”, visitors should start by taking a stroll to see which names jump out. End the meal by taking your leftovers back to your La Mirada rental motorhome and your end-of-day meal can be the kick starter needed to begin the next day.
