Unlike any other place in the world, the quirky little seaside community of Marina del Rey is a fantastic place to rent an RV. Surrounded on all sides by either the city of Los Angeles or the Pacific Ocean, Marina del Rey was once a collection of wetlands and salt marshes that were chosen for development in the mid 20th century. With less than 10,000 residents, tiny Marina del Rey is a small, relaxing oasis in the middle of the Los Angeles hustle and bustle.

The main draw to Marina del Rey is without a doubt the Fisherman’s Village, a waterfront tourist attraction featuring many restaurants, shopping facilities, boat rentals, and live music venues. From here you can even see the marina itself, the world's largest man-made small watercraft harbor. The marina was originally intended to serve as a port of Los Angeles, but instead was chosen to specialize as a vacation destination and home to thousands of personal watercraft.

When you book an RV in Marina del Rey, you are truly in for a treat. With easy access to some of Southern California’s best natural attractions and parks, as well as short drives to San Diego,  or Santa Barbara, you will have your hands full when choosing what to do next. Marina del Rey is especially nice in the summer months with its magnificent 4th of July Firework Show and Celebration, and its lovely summertime concert series. You cannot go wrong when you rent a Marina del Rey RV rental.

Discover Marina del Rey

Experience the Sites and Scenery

When you choose to rent a motorhome in Marina del Rey, CA, most might assume that the bright lights and the nightlife are the main draws. But it is advisable that you take a trip outside the city limits and escape to witness the gorgeous scenery of southern California, if only for a day or two.

Topanga State Park is the nearest park to town, and you need not drive more than 20 minutes to reach it in your Marina del Rey rental RV. The park is the largest in both the Santa Monica Mountains and the largest park within the city limits of Los Angeles. Topanga State Park has lots of historically important sights to see, trails and recreation areas, camping spots, and a wonderful nature center with many natural artifacts explaining the complex. Malibu Creek State Park is another fine place to go after renting an RV in Marina del Rey and is not much farther from the city than Topanga State Park. Malibu Creek State Park has been described as the Yosemite of southern California, and once was the backdrop to countless Hollywood movie productions. The 8,000-acre park is full of lush oak savannah and tall grass plains overlooking the valley.

Angeles National Forest is just north of the metro area in the San Gabriel Mountains, and with five wilderness areas, it is an ideal place to take the Marina del Ray camper rental. It has several swimming lakes, and lots of mountain peaks to scale for incredible views of the sea and the city, including Mount San Antonio, the highest and often snow-covered mountain perched high above the skyline.

There is always the option when vacationing in California to visit one of the stunning national parks that are located within the state’s borders. You can take your Marina del Rey travel trailer rental north to visit Yosemite National Park, or stick closer to Los Angeles and visit Joshua Tree National Park, a few hours’ drive east of Los Angeles County. Joshua Tree National Park is an essential stop on any nature tour of southern California, with its otherworldly monolithic rock formations jutting out of the landscape. With unique trees and starlit night skies, this marriage of two different desert ecosystems is one of the more interesting places you can visit.

City Attractions

Although the physical size of Marina del Rey is quite small, there is tons off fun packed into the tiny community. Perhaps the most famous attraction in the area is the Fisherman’s Village, modeled after a sleepy old New England-style fishing village, and full of hundreds of brand name shops, and incredible places to enjoy world-class cuisine while gazing upon the sun setting over the Pacific. You can also charter a boat (or yacht!), or any number of other watercraft like jet skis, wave runners, or paddle boards to enjoy while you cool off in the refreshing ocean waters.

Just north of the Marina del Rey community, you can visit Santa Monica and its amazing pier that juts out into the sea. This 100+ year-old landmark is famous for its wild amusement rides and iconic Ferris wheel.

Since Marina del Rey blends into the surrounding cities, all of the Los Angeles attractions are on the table when you hop on the public transportation and explore the area. The Hollywood Sign, the Walk of Fame, Griffith Observatory, and even Disneyland are all options when you rent an RV in Marina del Rey. There are infinite ways to spend your vacation here depending on what you love to do, and there is something for everyone.

Where to Park It

Due to the small size of Marina del Rey, there aren’t many places to park the RV in town. Fortunately, there are some splendid options quite close. The closest park to Marina del Rey is a few minutes south in Playa del Rey. Dockweiler RV Park has the distinction of being the only beachfront RV park in the county and is an ideal place to stay in order to remain close to Marina del Rey and Los Angeles. Waking up to the rolling waves and golden rays of sun is always a great way to start your day. In the Hollywood hills of Los Angeles, Hollywood RV Park and Walnut RV Park are the closest to many attractions and provide you with ample opportunity to see the world-famous nearby attractions. Don’t forget about Topanga State Park mentioned above, with many camping spots and amenities that will enable you to relax and find peace of mind. No matter where you stay, renting a luxury motorhome in Marina del Rey will surely provide you with a memorable experience.
