It is unclear where Moorpark originally got its name from. Some historians speculate that the surveyors working for the Southern Pacific Railroad believe the sloping hills to look like the Scottish moors. Although it is unclear whether or not this is the real origin of the name, it is clear that Moorpark is a phenomenal place to rent an RV and take a vacation.

Moorpark is quite close to the Los Angeles metropolitan area, but far enough outside the city to avoid pitfalls like pollution and traffic. This glorious little community is only minutes from popular coastal towns like Malibu and Ventura, where many of Hollywood's biggest names live or own real estate. The historic city center is picturesque and a pleasure to take a stroll on, and visitors to Moorpark can easily get around the county utilizing the public transit system. If that weren't enough, the beaches, mountains, and forests around Moorpark are incredible, so most of your vacation can be spent among the natural beauty of southern California. When you book an RV in Moorpark, it is best to do so during one of the town’s many events, like the Country Days Festival, July 4th festivities, Apricot Festival, or the town-wide American Civil War Reenactment that takes place every autumn.

Experience the Sites and Scenery

There are lots of exceptional parks in Moorpark, which is impressive considering the size of the town. Twenty parks can be found in Moorpark, all with different features and facets. Arroyo Vista Community Park is the town’s largest and most centrally located public space with almost seventy acres of beautifully landscaped recreation area. Sports fields and courts of all types can be found at Arroyo Vista Community Park, as well as a playground, picnic shelters, and an indoor gymnasium. Arroyo Vista also hosts the annual fireworks extravaganza that draws spectators from all over the county each July.

When you rent an RV in Moorpark, there are a number of directions to head in and places to see depending on your taste. Point Mugu State Park to the south is an excellent place to surf, swim, or walk the spectacular beaches next to the famed Pacific Coast Highway. White sand beaches, canyons, sloping hills, and sand dunes are reason enough to bring your Moorpark camper rental to Point Mugu and go camping.

Leo Carrillo State Park is another wonderful ocean park to check out after you pick up the best RV rental in Moorpark. This exciting park is a hotspot for surfing, beachcombing, and snorkeling. Or you could explore the many tidal pools, coral reefs, and spooky sea grottos that line the rocky coast. Additionally, you can bring your Moorpark motorhome rental to Malibu Creek State Park or Topanga State Park, two of the most popular weekend destinations for residents of Los Angeles County.

Moorpark is sandwiched between two massive national forests, adding to the list several other exciting places to visit when you rent an RV. Angeles National Forest to the east is situated in the San Gabriel Mountains that tower over the densely populated metro area to the south. The wilderness areas and high mountain peaks are great for climbing, trekking, hiking, and especially camping. Los Padres National Forest is just north of Moorpark and covers just under two million acres of land. With ten backcountry wilderness areas and three recreation areas, Los Padre National Forest rivals some of the National Park s in terms of size and beauty. Joshua Tree National Park, Death Valley National Park, and of course Yosemite National Park are all technically within driving distance should you feel the need to explore southern California more, but all the incredible nature you can handle is readily available in and around Moorpark for your convenience.

City Attractions

Old Town Moorpark is the main walking area where businesses operate in the center of town. Lots of great restaurants, boutiques, breweries, and other retail shops line the streets, as well as delightful, old buildings from the town's early days.

America’s Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College is not your average zoo, as it is run by students studying to work at zoos themselves someday. This small zoo is excellent for children and families because it includes intimate up-close encounters with exotic wildlife.

High Street Arts Center is a local mainstay for live performances. Lots of plays and musicals put on by locals are featured at this lovely old theater. The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library & Museum is a few miles from Moorpark and one of the premier attractions in southern California. Guests can see the inside of the presidential airplane “Air Force One”, learn about the former president, and see and touch artifacts pertaining to his tenure, like a chunk of the Berlin Wall.

There are many other interesting things to see around the area, especially the closer you get to Los Angeles, where several books could be written about the vast amount of attractions that can be found in the metro area.

Where to Park It

There are entirely too many options to possibly name as far as campgrounds and RV parks are concerned, so visitors are encouraged to do some digging on their own. There are enough public campgrounds with low prices alone to comfortably accommodate you and your Moorpark RV trailer rental, like Tapo Canyon Regional Park and its fantastic RV camping space. Castaic Lake RV Park is located on a large lake ideal for summertime swimming and boating. The pool and hot tub are nice additions to the many amenities at Castaic Lake RV Park as well. Acton/Los Angeles North KOA also has a pool, hot tub, sauna, snack bar, and pet-friendly walking area for a cozy homelike experience. Malibu RV Park is located right on the beach next to the majestic waters of the Pacific, where sunrise and sunset are intoxicatingly beautiful. The camp store, clubhouse, game room, and of course the palm tree-lined campgrounds are unbelievable features at paradise campground.
