The small city of Pinole is set in the northern region of San Francisco Bay Area, just south of the Carquinez Strait and Napa Valley. Pinole is nestled into the southeastern shores of San Pablo Bay approximately halfway between the cities of Richmond and Vallejo. You can reach either of these cities by driving via Interstate 80 which passes close to Pinole. It is also well connected by highways to both Stanislaus National Forest and Yosemite National Park in California’s Sierra Nevada Mountain Range.

The Great Outdoors

This lush regional park is one of the gems of Contra Costa County. Despite its proximity to Walnut Creek, Concord, and Martinez, this natural area remains largely hidden. The 6,255-acre area is home to several species of wildlife including coyotes, turkey vultures, and black­-tailed deer. Following the park's scenic trails, you can also spot a variety of wildflowers, oak, and bay trees sprinkled between rolling meadows. Along with day-use picnic areas and an archery range, Briones Regional Park offers a quiet camping spot just a stone's throw from Pinole.

To continue your adventure, drive your motorhome to the South Gate Entrance of Mount Diablo State Park and climb the 11-mile road to the Mount Diablo Visitor Center. If you’re up for a challenge, then take one of the multi-use trails from the entrance and climb to the park's legendary observation deck. From here you’ll find yourself at one of the highest points in the county with incredible views west to San Francisco and the Pacific Ocean and east to Yosemite National Park. Once, you’ve enjoyed the view from up high you can stop into the Mount Diablo Summit Museum and learn about the history and geology of this state park.

Once you've visited Mount Diablo, why stop there? Take your Pinole camper rental farther east into California’s incredible Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. By following Highway 120 you’ll soon reach the foothills of Yosemite National Park. The area is a hot spot for extreme sports and recreational activities, from cycling in dense forest and trekking between deep valleys to cross-country skiing and driving on scenic byways. The national park hosts a number of campsites in Yosemite Valley Village and around the Tuolumne Meadows, so you can spend the night amid breathtaking scenery.

You may not find a designated RV camp in Pinole city center however you can drive your RV to the neighboring town of Rodeo and park at Rodeo Mobile Home & RV Park. This could be a nice place to stay if you plan to visit Vallejo; the park is located just off Interstate 80. On-site, guests have the access to sites with full (electric/water/sewer) hookups as well as Wi-Fi and cable TV. This spot might just be the best place to park your RV rental near Pinole if you would like to be within walking distance of the sea and just a few blocks from restaurants and shops.

You could also rent a motorhome in Pinole and drive to Juniper Campground in Mount Diablo State Park. The campground is accessible via the South Gate Entrance and located about halfway to the Mount Diablo Visitors Center. This remote campground has only basic facilities and you will need to stock up on food, gas, and other supplies in Walnut Creek.

The city of Pinole itself deserves a mention too. As one of the oldest cities in Contra Costa County, Pinole has a number of interesting sites tucked between its streets.
