In Sanger itself, make sure to visit the Sanger Depot Museum. This interesting site features the history of Sanger, particularly its role in the railroads. Nearby Reedley Museum, in the historic town of the same name, explores the history of the area. Big Dry Creek Museum is another history museum in neighboring Clovis. The Meux Home and Kearney Mansion Museums in Fresno offer insight into the history of the elite class in the area, with beautifully restored homes and grounds.

The immediate Fresno area features several great museums including the Fresno Art Museum, The Discovery Center Children’s Museum, Veteran’s Memorial Museum, and the African American Museum which features exhibits on the culture and history of African Americans in the San Joaquin Valley. Arte Americas is the largest Latino Cultural Arts Center in the San Joaquin Valley, and is located in downtown Fresno.

Fresno Chaffee Zoo is a great place to spend the day, and kids love it. The unique Forestiere Underground Gardens are a series of structures built by a Sicilian immigrant over a period of 40 years, from 1906 to 1946. Shinzen Friendship Japanese Gardens features beautiful Asian-inspired landscapes. Another great place for kids of all ages on hot summer days is the Island Waterpark.

Historic downtown Fresno features many shops and restaurants. You can enjoy eateries from great steak houses to seafood, international flavors from Japan, China, Italy, Mexico, Thailand and more. The Saturday morning and Wednesday afternoon Vineyard Farmers Market also takes place downtown, where you’ll find some of the freshest produce in town, farm-raised proteins, local honey and fruit preserves, and much more.
