The city of Santa Clarita lies just 40 minutes northwest of downtown Los Angeles and is the perfect getaway from the country’s second-largest city. If you’re renting an RV in Santa Clarita, you won’t have to worry about traffic or smog, instead just enjoy the area’s two theme parks, stunningly beautiful canyons, and great shopping experiences.

Santa Clarita is close enough to Los Angeles that you can easily make a day trip there, but far enough away you won’t feel like you’re staying in the big city. The city of Santa Clarita and the surrounding valley operate their own public transportation system but have connections to the Los Angeles bus system too. A much quicker alternative in LA, though, is to take the Metrolink Commuter Rail, which will have you downtown in about an hour.

If you’re a shopaholic, you’ll surely need to take a trip to Westfield Valencia Town Center. The outdoor shopping mall features stores like Banana Republic, Swarovski, Williams-Sonoma, and Micheal Kors along with an impressive food selection with the likes of Bonefish Grill, Cheesecake Factory, and Johnny Rockets.

Santa Clarita also has not one, but two Six Flags Theme Parks: Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor. The former has 19 roller coasters, the world record for a single park, including the Colossus wooden coaster. It also has a flume ride, a rifting rafting ride, and a massive carousel. Hurricane Harbor is a dedicated waterpark with a wave pool, lazy river ride, and plenty of waterslides.

If you or anyone in your family is an animal lover, you’ll definitely want to visit the Gibbon Conservation Center, a few miles to the northeast of town. It’s home to the largest gibbon population in North America and is one of the best places to see these fascinating primates; tours are given on Saturday and Sunday morning.

For the beer connoisseur, there are fantastic breweries on hand that serve some excellent suds and are great examples of how California is leading the way in America’s craft brewing revolution.
