Valley Springs is a small town in Calaveras County, California. It began as a stop for those who were trying to get tools and supplies to the gold miners who had joined in the California Gold Rush, as well as for farmers trying to get their products to city markets. In 1885, Valley Springs built its first railroad station, which not only improved the transfer and distribution of products but also supported Calaveras County's tourism industry that had begun with the establishment of Calaveras Big Trees State Park.

The Pardee Dam, which was opened in 1928, further added to the area's tourism industry. Calaveras County's economy revolved around tourism and agriculture, the farmers sending their goods to Stockton and San Francisco, and later on included a timber industry in the lower Sierra mountains. In 1895, most of Valley Springs was destroyed by fire but was rebuilt; the original train depot survived and can still be seen on the corner of Highways 12 and 26.

Discover Valley Springs

The Great Outdoors

The Camanche Reservoir has two areas of interest to visitors, its North Shore Recreation Company and its South Shore Recreation Area. The reservoir is fondly referred to as “the home of the monster fish”; parks employees seed the reservoir each spring with bass and trout, some growing up to eight pounds in size. Fishing boats and kayaks are available for rent, and sandy beaches make this swimming heaven for the kids. The reservoir is 7,700 acres in size and has 54 miles of shoreline; jet skiing and wakeboarding are also popular activities. Keep your Valley Springs travel trailer rental nearby for drying off post-swim or getting your catch of the day into a freezer or fridge once it has been cleaned.

Lake Amador also has stocked fishing and a clubhouse where visitors can relax, and Lake Pardee is described as having crystal clear water and being an excellent fishing venue.

RV Parks

Monument RV Park in Valley Springs has RV sites with full hookups (water, sewer and both 30/50 amp electricity), a recreation room and camp store, recreational trails, fishing and more. Each site has an asphalt surface, a picnic table, and a fire ring. The sites are spacious and some have shade.

Camanche South Shore Recreation Area also has RV camping; there are plenty of RV sites to choose from. Sites with full hookups are available.

49er RV Ranch is 35 miles southeast and has RV sites with full hookups (water, sewer and 30/50 amp electricity). The sites are set up in a type of circle, facing each other, so RVs must be backed in. The campground has restrooms and showers, a store, laundry facilities, a recreation room, hiking trails, and a pet area.

Angels Camp RV & Camping Resort is 20 miles southeast and has RV sites with Wi-Fi, full hookups (water, sewer and 30/50 amp electricity) and gravel/dirt pad surfaces. The campground has restrooms and showers, laundry facilities, a camp store where you can purchase propane, a playground and recreation room, hiking trails, an outdoor pool, and more. The park is pet friendly, has both pull through and back in sites, and big rig access.

Exploring The City

Being the small town that it is, there isn’t an extensive list of things to do within the city limits, but this is all the excuse a person needs to kick up their feet, grab a coffee and take in the scenes around town.

Those who have too much energy to sit still can choose between a round of golf or try out the hunting preserve in nearby Ione. You can also take the Valley Springs motorhome rental to the historical museum showcasing Calaveras County and a winery in Mokelumne Hill.

As the day winds down, thoughts naturally turn to repast and delicious food. For a small town, Valley Springs has a relatively large and interesting selection of outlets to choose from. There is an equal selection of chain restaurants and locally owned eateries, the latter having the most interesting names. Customers can choose between steakhouses and Mexican, pub food, pizza, Thai and Chinese, and more. There is also the option of grabbing some takeout and heading back to your RV rental near Valley Springs for dining under the stars, or grabbing some groceries from a local supermarket (providing locally grown and raised food) and having a delicious home-cooked meal, courtesy of the kitchen facilities in your Valley Springs luxury RV rental. When you rent an RV in Valley Springs, the only limit here is your imagination.
