The Great Outdoors

California is great for living the #vanlife. Book an RV rental in Ventura and explore the beautiful city that includes over 30 parks, green spaces, and historic sites. Its location on the coast means that there are beach fronts for miles, making it nearly impossible to not have some outdoor fun. Take in one of the most iconic views of the city and the ocean beyond at Serra Cross Park.

When you rent an RV in Ventura you can chill out at one of the numerous public beaches in the area, including Ventura Pier Beach, Surfers Point Beach, Harbor Cove, Hobson Beach, Emma Wood State Beach, and San Buenaventura State Beach. With an RV rental by owner in Ventura, you’ll have the perfect way to get around up and down the coast while searching for the perfect place to stretch out in the sun and get a California tan. Some of the best surfing on the California coast is found in Ventura County. Don’t know how, but want to hang ten? Take a lesson. There are several options for surf lessons in this beach town.

Hikers and bikers will love it here in Ventura. The Rincon Bike Trail is a flat, paved, coastal path that stretches for 15 awe-inspiring miles from Carpinteria State Beach to Rincon County Beach Park. Just north of Ventura, Los Padres National Forest offers plenty of hiking, including the iconic Punch Bowls Trail in the Santa Paula Canyon, which features natural swimming holes and waterfalls. There are six districts within the national forest, and all offer several trails of varying intensities. Closer to the city, Arroyo Verde Park has a three-mile loop that takes you up a hill for a beautiful panoramic view of the city and surrounding mountains, making it the perfect spot for a scenic lunch.

Deemed the Galapagos of North America due to its incredible ecological diversity, Channel Islands National Park is one place you must visit when you rent an RV. The five islands have too-beautiful-to-be-real views, and every season offers something different. Summer brings whale watching, and fall is ideal for snorkeling, winter is seal season, and spring is best for flowers and seabirds. All of the islands have trails of varying skill levels for stunning hikes overlooking the sea in every direction.

RV Parks

If you are renting an RV in Ventura, California, you will probably want to take advantage of easy camping on the area’s beaches. Both Emma Wood and Hobson beaches have RV campsites, as do many others. There are plenty of scenic RV-friendly campsites in the area, most notably the stretch of the 101 called the Rincon Parkway where RVs line up on the shoulder to have unobstructed views of the Pacific with the Channel Islands dotting the waters. Just south of the parkway is another campsite at Faria Beach Park, which has showers, a store, and café. Ventura Beach RV Resort is in a good location and has on-site activities, a pool and hot tub, and a shuttle service downtown on the weekends.

Head inland in your Ventura camper rental to stay at the Ventura Ranch KOA at the base of Los Padres National Forest, which has a wide range of campsite options, or stay at Lake Casitas and take your pick of campsites either on the shore or in the wooded areas surrounding it. There are several different options for site sizes and hookups, but all have picnic tables and fire rings. Nearby Casitas Water Adventure is a small, kid-friendly waterpark. Just south of Ventura is Evergreen RV Park which is near many shops and restaurants, as well as three different municipalities’ beaches.

Exploring the City

Ventura is one of the best places in the country for whale watching, surfing, fresh seafood, and abundant art. Check out the annual ArtWalk to experience the vibrant creativity found in the city. Or, if you’re a Johnny Cash fan, you will want to plan your trip around the annual RoadShow Revival – a music festival that pays tribute to Cash’s time in Ventura. A classic Venturian pastime is to spend a sunny morning fishing off of the city’s pier. If the fish aren’t biting, head on down to the thrift stores on Main Street and freshen up your wardrobe or add a new trinket to your travel collection. Once you work up an appetite, turn the corner on to Ventura Avenue and eat at some local favorites. The city is known for its great Mexican food, so you will definitely want to taste test as many tacos as possible. Families with kids can head to an amusement park, or catch a show at the award-winning Rubicon Theatre Company.

For the most part, downtown Ventura is walkable, and there are also bus routes throughout the city through Gold Coast Transit and VISTA. Leave your Ventura RV rental at your beach campsite, and conveniently explore the city on foot.
