The census-designated area of Westley is located in central California, just outside of the metropolitan city of Modesto and approximately halfway between the sunny beaches of San Francisco and the undulating mountains of the Yosemite National Park. The town was built following the construction of the railroad in the late 1800s and Westley takes its name from a prominent landowner of that same time, John Westley Van Boschoten.
