Agassiz, British Columbia was first visited by Anglo-Europeans in 1808. At that time, the fur trade was the prominent industry. Half a century later, gold was discovered in Cariboo. This led to an influx of fortune-seekers to the areas surrounding the Fraser and Harrison Rivers. Though the area was already thriving, it wasn’t until the Canadian Pacific Railway arrived in 1885 that things really got moving. Early industry in the area included agricultural pursuits, forestry, and tourism. This later changed to hop from farming to dairying to logging. Today, fishing, hunting, and outdoor recreation are what drive people from all around North America to Agassiz and the surrounding areas. Come visit this stellar area because your next adventure awaits.
