Brockville, Ontario, formerly known as Elizabethtown, is famed for being the gateway to the Ten Thousand Islands region of the Saint Lawrence River, which makes it very popular for summer vacations and those seeking outdoor recreation. It’s also situated about halfway between Toronto and Montreal, being 210 miles and 130 miles away respectively. It’s also just an hour’s drive from Canada’s capital, Ottawa, and borders the U.S. state of New York, making Brockville a very convenient destination for getting just about anywhere in one of Canada’s most populous regions.

Brockville doesn’t have much in the way of public transportation, so when you rent an RV, expect to drive it just about everywhere you go. A few bus lines make their way through the city, but their stops can be few and far between. Fortunately, parking isn’t too hard to find around town.

Getting Outside near Brockville

If there’s one piece of nature that you must explore when you book an RV in Brockville, it’s the Ten Thousand Islands. While actually only consisting of about 1,800 islands in the St. Lawrence River, the region is famous for its many boating opportunities, excellent camping, and the chance to explore the Boldt Castle mansion on Heart Island. The Ten Thousand Island Bridge that connects Ontario with New York is about 25 miles away.

For something a little closer to town, check out Centeen Park. The green space is a nice place for a picnic, but it’s also set up as a scuba diving training center with a shallow area populated with underwater concrete statues. Visibility isn’t always great and the water can be quite cold but the fact that there’s a dive center so far from the ocean is a pleasant surprise. The Brock Trail is another place to enjoy the great outdoors, and it conveniently departs from the middle of Brockville’s downtown and extends for over three miles along Buell Creek. It’s a great place for a bike ride or a quiet stroll through the trees.

RV Parks near Brockville

Thanks to the ever-popular Ten Thousand Islands, there are plenty of great places to camp along the St. Lawrence River with your Brockville RV rental. Most of the parks are centered around nearby Mallorytown, about 10 miles away, and its numerous lakes. Pleasure Park RV Resort is one of the options in the area. The park has a large playground, boat rentals, wagon rides on the weekends, and of course, full hookups for your Brockville camper rental.

Lucky Loon Family Campground, Rock Island Camp, and Maple Leaf RV Campground are also located within a few miles of Pleasure Park and could also be good options.

Happy Green Acres Campground is a little bit closer to Brockville and has full hookups (or dry sites if that’s what you prefer), a heated saltwater pool, and laundry facilities.

There’s also a Walmart right off of Highway 401, which is a convenient place to stay for a night or two if you don’t mind dry camping. When planning fuel stops with your Brockville motorhome rental, you should be able to access one of the few truck stops in the area. The larger fueling bays will make it easier to maneuver your rig around, plus most have dump stations if you need to empty your tank.

Exploring the Town of Brockville

There are so many great sights to explore when you rent an RV in Brockville, ON, as the town is home to a number of historical sites including Brockville Tunnel (Canada’s first railway tunnel), the Cole Shoal Range Lighthouse (a hexagonal lighthouse from the mid-19th century), and Thomas Fuller Building (a beautiful brick building that once served as the town’s post office).

The Aquatarium at Tall Ships Landing is the perfect place for kids to learn about the unique wildlife that makes their home along the St. Lawrence River. Exhibits are highly interactive and focus on storytelling rather than presenting kids with a barrage of facts they won’t remember. The Brockville Museum is another great learning experience that tells the story of the town’s industrial past and how it’s come out the other side as a popular tourist destination.

For a little culture, make some time for a show at the Brockville Arts Center. The magnificent theater was built in the 1800s but has been restored for contemporary events. Performances range from live theater to country music concerts and indie films, so take a look at their calendar to see what’s playing during your visit.
