From humble beginnings, Gatineau, Quebec was finally named a city in 1975. From here, it has become a larger amalgamation with nearby cities, greatly expanding the area and bringing together more people who you may still find refer to the area as “Hull”.

The Gatineau River flows south through the city and joins the Ottawa River, where the cities of Gatineau and Ottawa, Ontario just barely meet. Water is everywhere here, and this is a preferred location for those who enjoy aquatic recreation. Gatineau is also home to a multitude of parks, with many hosting spectacular views of Ottawa’s Parliament buildings and other major features of the sister city.

Brush up on your French and feel worlds away just outside the USA's northern border! When you book an RV in Gatineau, you don’t have to worry about taking a vehicle with you or fret over hotel and hostel stays. You have the best of both necessities with you in one! With your Gatineau camper rental, you won’t have to limit yourself, either! Get exploring and really experience what Quebec and this region of Canada have to show!

Discover Gatineau

RV Close

There’s so much to take in and it is an outdoor enthusiast’s dream! For a day trip that will go over famously with the whole family, drive your Gatineau RV rental out to La Foret Blanche Ecological Reserve in nearby Mayo, QC.

Here, you will find one of the last remaining “old-growth” forests in Quebec, meaning some of the trees found in this area are over 400 years old. The extraordinary ecosystem is striking, with a multitude of lakes sprinkled in among the forests. Many come to enjoy the hiking trails and partake in snowshoeing during applicable seasons.

From here, travel almost 2 hours farther north to the heart of Papineau-Labelle Wildlife Reserve in Notre-Dame-du-Laus. If you enjoyed Foret La Blanche, you’ll easily fall in love with Papineau-Labelle. The Wildlife Reserve boasts rich, diverse vegetation and superlative conditions for viewing the animals that call this reserve home.

Hunting is readily pursued, as the reserve is home to large game, such as white-tailed deer and moose, as well as the favored pelts of beaver. Fishermen dream about lakes such as these; the waters brimming with Lake and Speckled Trout. When you rent an RV, you don’t have to commit to only one portion of this large reserve.

Go on - spend a few days out here! You won’t have any problem finding a perfect location to park just outside of Papineau-Labelle Reserve. Many RV parks, resorts, and campgrounds surround the reserve, so you can find just the one to suit your fancy. By keeping your RV rental near Gatineau, you can easily hop between the two worlds.

RV Far

When you’re looking for adventure a little farther out, be sure to take on a trip to Algonquin Provincial Park. This is about a three-hour drive west, across the Ottawa River line that separates Quebec from Ontario.

Algonquin Provincial Park is a vast and densely forested park that features quite a variety of hiking trails, campground sites, and magnificent lakes. The wildlife viewing here is spectacular, too. Along Highway 60 is where you will find all of Algonquin’s eight campgrounds. The grounds are among the 14 well-hiked trails, an exceptional Visitor Center, a Logging Museum, and an Art Center.

When you stay with your Gatineau luxury RV rental, you don’t have to worry about missing any of the Natural Heritage Education programs held at Algonquin. This includes the long-awaited favorite, the Public Wolf Howl. The program is held every Thursday in August and has been conducted by devoted staff members for over 50 years. All occasions are weather-permitting, but, with an RV rental, you don’t have to worry about the rest of your vacation being washed out!

RV In The City

Back where your Gatineau RV rental by owner adventure started, the city is just as vibrant and eclectic as the surrounding landscapes. The collection of parks that make up Gatineau each share their own unique getaway, many pleasantly green and peaceful.

There are two rather important attractions that are found in Gatineau. The Canadian Museum of History and the Casino du Lac-Learny are certainly worth stopping for. If you’re looking for something truly spectacular, be sure to visit during the beginning of September for the annual hot air balloon festival, which fills the skies with wonder.

When you want a little more spice for your nightlife, be sure to take in Gatineau’s Vieux-Hull sector of downtown. This area hosts restaurants, cafes, and bars all within a few paces from Ottawa. It’s a popular partying spot, as neighboring Ontario citizens can drink a year sooner over on this side in Quebec.

Gatineau is filled with so much to experience, both near and far. Why limit yourself to one location that you have to rush back to at the end of the day? Make everything about your trip to Canada easy with an RV rental. Stay where you want when you want and how you want. You call the shots on this vacation!
