Poppy is a brand new 2021 Promaster Conversion. She was converted with Free Life Vans (Specialty Van Conversion) which means that she was custom designed with your comfort in mind. She is decked out with a full bed, sink, outdoor shower, warm water, induction stove, dometic refrigerator (35L), ventilation, AC, heating and plenty of storage. The back and side doors have mosquito nets to keep all those pesky critters out. We have magnetic windows covers for privacy and added insulation. There is a privacy curtain between the cab and living area. You have the option to go off grid with solar power or plug in with shore power. There is a composting toilet to help make your stay more comfortable. She has a Fiama awning so you can create an outdoor "living room" to lounge in the shade.

There are three belted seats in the front and one in the back (can be removed for extra space) so traveling with your kids is an option! The bed easily sleeps two but you can absolutely get creative with plenty of space on the floor to set up an air mattress and a smaller couch area where a child could sleep.

This is the perfect opportunity to see if van life is for you!

What's included

Cookware, utensils, dish soap, sponge, kitchen towel, electric kettle, french press, coffee, tea, fresh linens, single trash bag.
Camp chairs and hammock available for rental.
Please bring your own towels, toiletries, spices, food, etc.

Recommendations

There are plenty of places to explore in North Carolina and beyond! Local to Durham, Eno River State park has many different hikes along the water and some opportunity for tent camping. Check out Falls Lake and Jordan Lake for hiking, swimming and fishing, with areas to spend the night in the van.

If you want to venture a bit beyond, you can head to Hanging Rock State Park or further West towards Asheville and Boone. There is PLENTY to do in these areas, especially if you enjoy climbing!

Other things to note

Dogs are welcome at an additional fee ($50 per dog).
Pets must NEVER be left in the van alone. This is for their safety (as well as the safety of the van). Even though the van is in top notch condition, there is always the chance that you could run out of power or have a fuse blow... we don't want your furry family member to run the risk of getting dangerously overheated.
Please do not allow pets on the bed or cushions.

We started Free Life Vans in 2020. We saved up all of our money so Will could leave his job and focus on van conversions full time. We are so glad that we went for it! It brings us so much joy to share our love of Van Life with others and help future Van Lifers get started! Check out our website and reach out if you have any questions!

Will and Miss Poppy were excellent hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience with them as RV first-timers. Would highly recommend both and will certainly look their way on our next adventure!

This was our first experience with a campervan. We had a lovely trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Will explained before we left how everything worked in a way that gave confidence that we would have no issues. And that is how it worked out. He was very friendly and helpful and also was flexible in that we could pick up the van a few hours early. The van was very easy to drive. The layout of the van was very pragmatic. It had all the essentials to be self-sufficient (other than food of course). It froze lightly at night, but the heater was amazingly efficient and kept us warm. We were amazed that the water level dropped so slowly, and that the battery remained very full, with no additional electrical hookup needed.

I had the best time. The van was perfect and it was clear the owners put so much thought and care into the build. Now the only problem is dealing with my insatiable desire to buy one of my own!

The experience I had dealing with William was above and beyond to say the least and 'Miss Poppy' was everything I'd hoped for in my first time utilizing a conversion and then some. To start, I had some scheduling constrains to work around for my ability to take a trip to the mountains a possibility. I was able to reach out to Will and tell him what I was working with, and he went above and beyond to accommodate my schedule. Upon arrival for pickup, you see a couple vans that he is in the process of building and really get an appreciation for the fact his vehicles are truly custom and you're dealing with the man that built them. The van (Miss Poppy) was extremely well laid out, not crowed at all, has tons of space for all your adventure gear (to include built in fishing rod holders) and had a fantastic solar system that always kept me comfortable and my food nice and cold. I had zero issues with any of the onboard systems and the van drove like a dream; nothing to be intimidated by if it's your first time driving a larger vehicle. Of note, there is even an installed rear facing camera that displays in real-time where the rear-view mirror is so you have real-time situational awareness on the road; something you would normally not have with a conversion van. Also, there is a single seat installed in the back behind the driver’s seat so, if you are looking to take a little one with you on your journey, you can safely secure them for the ride, which is not something that many of the available vans provide you the ability to do. The size, while roomy enough for comfort, was also compact enough that parking and navigating your way around places you want to visit is just as easy as driving a full-size truck. The vehicle can hook up to shore power and water so picking overnight locations in campgrounds with hook ups when planning your routes is a great option as well. Returning the van was an easy process and, although I left what seems like half of what i took with me on the trip in the van, Will made sure to get everything back to me in a very timely manner. I can’t say enough good things about how well the interactions went with Will or about how awesome of an experience living out of the van really was. If you are curious about van life or just want to take a fun trip to the mountains or the coast, then this is the van for you. I’m looking forward to renting again, and if things work out as I hope, going through Will for my own conversion van build one day down the road.
