Dee-Dee is a full camper with a sink, 2-burner stove, fridge and comes fully stocked for your cooking needs. She is a right-hand drive diesel imported from Japan—compact, nimble and drives like a car, albeit slowly. She doesn’t like to go fast, but she will get you where you want to go.
Panoramic windows for full nature views, but also equipped with curtains should privacy be needed. Perfect for tall bodied adventurers. No need to hunch to cook or to change clothes.
Dee-Dee is a great choice for all types of van life adventures - you can connect to shore power at campgrounds and run all pronged devices or you have the option to disconnect in more remote locations. The auxiliary battery and solar panel will keep low-voltage appliances charged!
Dee-Dee can sleep up to four - two in the cab and two up top with enough clearance to turn over without bonking your head. There is a small cartridge toilet that tucks away in a cabinet.
The original awning allows you to set up outside to extend your living space with camp chairs and table provided.

What's included

2 camp chairs, camp table, 2 sets of sheets, 2 blankets, cookware, place-settings, utensils, bio-degradable soap.

Please use the sheets to protect the upholstery. If you don't need the blankets, table or chairs, please let me know as they take up space.

Other things to note

Normal pick up time is 11am however special arrangements can be made to pick up anytime between 9am-5pm subject to availability. Please confirm a pick-up time at least one week before your rental and make sure to let us know if you are going to be early or late. Rentals are based on a 24-hour rental period meaning the pick-up and drop-off times are the same. It is possible to extend your drop-off time, however, with an extra 1/2 day
charge.

Dee-Dee Directions
Please allow 30 minutes before and after pick-up and drop-off to for tutorial, practice drive, van inspection and Outdoorsy paperwork.
DRIVING
DIESEL #2 GAS ONLY Regular gas will completely ruin the motor. Since this is an older vehicle, it needs regular diesel, not bio-diesel. Please return the van with a full tank.

Motor is under the passenger seat.

This van has glow plugs that must be sufficiently warmed up before driving. In colder temperatures, this can take up to 15 minutes. There is a little light indicator on the dash that will go off when it’s ready to drive.

Tips on driving a right-hand drive vehicle: align the car with the right-side line of a lane, turn indicator is on the right-hand side too.

On the highway, 60 mph is the ideal—not faster. Since the van is tall, it’s necessary to hold on tightly to the steering wheel in windy conditions as well as when big trucks pass by.
CAMPER
POWER
Plug into shore power. The plug is in the back cabinet and the outlet is on the driver side under a flap. All plastic is very brittle due to age. Please take care when plugging in and removing. Turn on switch in the back near bottom of the closet. Turn on switch behind driver seat. ONLY have those switches on while plugged into power in order to not drain the battery.

An extension cord is provided for extra accessibility.

If there is no shore power, the solar panel can charge the lights and water pump. The refrigerator will drain it quickly, so it’s safer to use ice if boon docking.

The dining table has a broken brackets (one was broken with first rental). Please take care when removing or putting it back on. The plastic and vinyl are brittle due to the age. One window of the bunk area does not open. It’s best to leave both closed and use the roof vent for circulation (unless it’s raining).
REFRIDGERATOR
The fridge sucks a lot of battery power, so use while driving or plugged into shore power. The on/off switch is under the driver side far back seat. If an extra cooler is needed, it can be provided.
WATER
There are two plastic tanks for water. The fresh water needs to be filled manually and a full tank is heavy to carry. It will also weigh down the van a bit. The fresh water tank is old plastic and not suitable for drinking. Please use it for washing only.
PROPANE
The two-burner stove uses a special propane tank. The switch is under the stove and needs to be in a vertical position when using. Turn to off position when not using. When lighting and cooking, take care as to not burn the top on the cabinet! The glass top can be positioned to divert the flame. Cooking outside with the portable cooktop is encouraged.
CARTIRIDGE TOILET
There is a little cartridge toilet in the lower cabinet. Please properly dispose of waste before returning camper.

You may drive on paved, secondary or gravel roads. Driving off-road or on 4×4 tracks is prohibited. The lessee is liable for all damages to the vehicle, tires, towing charges and other expenses as a result of any damage. Sorry, no smoking and no pets.

Tracy was fantastic. And so was Dee Dee (her van). Even though the steering wheel is on the right side, the van was very easy to drive. I enjoyed my trip to Oregon and would rent Dee Dee again if the opportunity arises.

We had a really great time staying in Dee-Dee; she delighted the crew of van lifers and Jen enthusiasts we were camping with! The van itself drives well and is really fun. Understand part of the joy you will get from this rental is the quirky nature of the vehicle, think of it an additional teammate on your adventure. The bed was comfortable and both provided stoves gave us the option to make private tea in the evening and cook outside with friends in the morning. It’s a one of kind rental and take the time to enjoy the little touches while your staying in it. Since removal of shoes is a Japanese thing, a few of those touches (cubbies and spaces to store shoes) help keep the van really clean. Sadly I didn’t take any pictures, I’d recommend the next renter post a pic of the adorable campervan/crab sticker at least

We absolutely loved this camper. It was the perfect fit for boondocking close by. Driving was a cinch as we recently returned from Japan. Thank you for a memorable experience!!

Tracy’s answer

It was exciting to rent to a couple who has experienced driving JDMs in Japan! Super sweet and accommodating with the nuances of a 'vintage' van. So glad you had a great time! Welcome home!
