Just north of Thonotosassa is the Lower Hillsborough Wilderness Preserve. Actually a collection of several recreation areas, the preserve is determined to maintain the ecological diversity and natural beauty of central Florida. Visitors are more than welcome to canoe or kayak through the rivers or hike any distance of the 60 miles of trails that exist within the boundaries.

If you are looking to get a feel of Florida swamps, then look to Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve near Dade City. With a giant loop trail, you can do as little or as much as you want and get to see some of the most pristine and untouched landscapes and wildlife in Florida. If you’re really looking to get to some of Florida’s most well known natural features, drive your Thonotosassa RV rental three hours south to Everglades National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can take a guided airboat tour of the park, canoe and kayak through the quieter wetlands, or hike through some of the drier spots. If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, you can get into the tanks yourself and go swimming in the coral reef exhibit or with some of the smaller sharks.

After your days of exploring and adventuring, you’re going to want something hearty to replace all those calories you’ve burned on your hikes through the wetlands and swims with the sharks. The perfect way to do this is to treat yourself to some locally caught red snapper or mahi-mahi.
