Winter Springs is a small town in Seminole County, Florida. Although it was originally incorporated as North Florida in 1959, it has grown consistently and significantly enough to distinguish itself. Florida Technological University opened nearby in 1968 (it is now the University of Central Florida, one of the largest in the U.S.); between that and Central Florida's aerospace and defense industries' continued growth, the town grew as a result to become a premier residential area in Central Florida. The city changed its name to Winter Springs in 1972 and today is a balance of office space, retail infrastructure, and residential neighborhoods.

Book an RV in Seminole County and you are on your way to discovering the sights and sounds of Central Florida. There are numerous other towns worth spending time in. Sanford is also known as “the Historic Waterfront Gateway City” due to its location on Lake Monroe and near the mouth of St. Johns River. Oviedo is a treasure chest of historic buildings but is just as well known for the chickens that roam the downtown core (presumably reminding people on occasion to wake up). Winter Park was created by northern business leaders as a resort community; its main street is literally a “who's who” of important business and recreational enterprises. Orlando, in addition to being a major tourist destination, is also an important conference and convention destination, one of the busiest in America. Apopka's former mayor was John H. Land, who served from 1949 to 2104, with the exception of a three-year gap in the middle; Land holds the record as the longest-serving mayor in the history of Florida and the United States. A Winter Springs CA RV rental can grant easy access to the amazing landscape and history of the state of Florida.

The Great Outdoors

Lake Jesup Conservation Area is governed and managed by the St. Johns River Water Management District, which protects water resources and preserves them for future use. The Lake Jesup area is also instrumental in flood protection efforts. Activities permitted are hiking and biking, horseback riding, and wildlife viewing. Outdoor photography is allowed but caution is urged as the wildlife are not accustomed to human presence (keeping your distance is strongly recommended). Canoeing and non-motorized boating are allowed on Lake Jesup but there aren't any launch areas on the lake. Pack drinking water and bug spray.

Wekiwa Springs State Park is a popular destination with locals, who come here to hike, canoe or kayak, or just escape the city for a few hours. Biking and horseback riding on the trails are also allowed but the water resources, fed by an azure spring, are the biggest draw. The park is open from morning until dusk all year round, but overnight camping is also allowed.

Charles H. Bronson State Forest is named after the Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner (not the 1970's Hollywood actor of roughly the same name), who was appointed in 2001 and re-elected twice in 2002 and 2006. The forest is comprised of the St Johns River floodplain, which includes wet prairie, cypress swamp, sandhill, and pine flatwoods, and the St Johns River (which is the longest river in Florida). It is open for hiking and horseback riding, picnicking, and wildlife viewing. Photographers and birders will be in heaven spotting deer, bald eagles, sandhill cranes, and many other native species.

RV Parks

There are many RV parks and campgrounds near Winter Springs; visitors coming to this area will have a good choice among them. Your Winter Springs motorhome rental is your confirmation that this will be a comfortable and fun vacation.

Lost Lake RV Park is a family-friendly campground that rents by the day, week or month. The park is pet-friendly and has a swimming pool, basketball court, and other activities for its guests. Some of the sites have pull-through access, cement pads, and natural tree canopies providing shade. Some of the sites also have full hookups.

Exploring The City

There is a lot to see and do in Winter Springs. Much of it is outdoors (but local), and visitors to the area should start with the parks and reserves, of which there are many. Those who want to see more nature, but in perspective, should investigate the local tours, which include both sight and historical-cultural context. There are farmers markets, and a local museum that provides exhibits demonstrating, rather than telling, the area's history. Another museum focuses on American art and has exhibits of Louise Comfort Tiffany's glassworks, such as stained glass lamps. Those who would like to relax and be pampered should check out a health and wellness center that has float (also known as sensory deprivation) tanks; don't let the name fool you, though, as these can be very relaxing. While you are on the ground in Winter Springs, take your Winter Springs RV rental for a ride on the local highways; this is RV life at its very best.

Foodies are in for a treat in Winter Springs. Prices range from inexpensive to moderately priced and fine dining, so there is something for everyone. One local diner has breakfast down to an art form and has an outdoor patio to boot. A seafood restaurant specializes in fried items but does it very well, from the clams to the onion rings; if you manage to eat here, try the grilled Mahi tacos with coleslaw. Portions are huge in many of these venues, so expect to take some of your dinner home to your Winter Springs travel trailer rental for a late night snack.

Those wishing for a quieter dine-in experience still have the luxury of preparing a meal in their Winter Springs luxury RV rental. There are several grocery stores close by where you can stock up on groceries and prepare your feast your way. Enjoyed on comfy lawn chairs under a starlit sky or RV canopy, it doesn't get much better than this.
