Gainesville, Georgia is both a gateway to the North Georgia Mountains, as well as it is home to some sections of Lake Lanier. While Gainesville is within an hour drive to the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, the land is moderately flat. You can access Gainesville via I-985 North. The Great Outdoors

Much of Gainesville lies on the shoreline of Lake Lanier, which is one of the nation’s most popular inland water destinations. Lake Lanier was constructed in 1956 when the Buford Dam was completed and is fed by both the Chattahoochee River and the Chestatee River.

Don Carter State Park is the newest state park in Georgia, and it is the first state park that is located on Lake Lanier. The park is often rented out to host concerts and events as well, in addition to the usual seasonal activities. Shady Grove RV Park is also in Cumming but is a little bit closer than Twin Lakes RV Park. This campground is a mere 24 minutes from Gainesville. Shady Grove is a county-maintained park and has a few more length-of-stay restrictions. The maximum stay is 14 days at Shady Grove, so if you’re looking for a short-term place, this may be a good option for your luxury Gainesville motorhome rental! Some of Shady Grove’s amenities include a playground, boat ramp, beach with a swimming area, and full RV hookups.

Duckett Mill RV Park is also another option should you wish to stay close to town. 97 campsites provide partial RV hookups. Campground amenities include men and women's shower houses, a playground, laundry facilities, a boat ramp, and picnic areas. Duckett Mill would be a great place to get away for the weekend.
