The Great Outdoors

When you book an RV in Kennesaw, Georgia, you are close to several great areas to explore. Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park hosts civil war monuments and trails, and with a short hike to the top, you’ll catch some fantastic views for miles around with the Atlanta skyline rising on the horizon. Pack a lunch and eat up at the top of the mountain while you enjoy the view. Near the base of Kennesaw Mountain, the Noonday Creek Trail is a very accessible way to take a run, walk, or bike, with 10 miles of paved trails that wind through forested areas and open spaces. There is a bike share option at the park as well, so you don’t even need to bring your own! Drive just North in your Kennesaw, GA rental camper, to Red Top Mountain State Park, which is a forested mountain surrounded by a huge winding lake. Visitors can relax in the water, or hike to the top and enjoy the view.

While in the area, Chattahoochee National Forest must be on your list of places to visit. Less than two hours North, it makes the perfect weekend trip in your Kennesaw motorhome rental. The forest is connected to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and is a massive part of the general Southern ecosystem. The Appalachian Trail ends in the Chattahoochee Forest, so if you’ve ever wanted to hike a section of the AT, now’s your chance! The national forest also has over 850 miles of recreation trails, so whether you want to do a one-mile loop or a 20-mile full day hike, they have something for everyone and every skill level.

If you’re heading into Atlanta, one of the classic outdoor activities is to Shoot the Hooch – AKA float down the Chattahoochee River in whatever watercraft you prefer, be it a raft, tube, paddle board, or kayak. You can bring your own and float for free, or you can rent from the outfitter in Azalea Park.

RV Parks

In Chattahoochee National Forest there are three districts that each have multiple campgrounds where you can stay in your Kennesaw RV rental. Each RV station has water and electric hookups, and three of the campgrounds have dump sites as well. Near Altoona Lake and Red Top Mountain, there are several RV-friendly campsites, including the Victoria and McKinney Campgrounds. McKinney is closer to Kennesaw, and has sites right on the banks of the lake. The site offers several amenities such as accessible facilities, water hookups, laundry, beach access, and fishing. Victoria Campground is on the northern side of the lake, and has serene, forested campsites with several amenities at each site.

There are a few places to stay around Kennesaw until you get into the greater Atlanta area, where you’ll find the charming Atlanta Marietta RV Resort Park. You can stay in your Kennesaw luxury RV rental and enjoy the wooded grounds at any time of the year. All of the RV sites are level and paved, and they also have electric, water and sewer hookups, showers, laundry, free WiFi and cable, and a seasonal pool.

Exploring the City

Kennesaw has four historic districts that are great places to explore, and the Depot (Kennesaw’s Welcome Center) is a historic railway station that also has several exhibits and structures about the city’s history and role in the Civil War. Lovers of Southern food will want to plan their trip around the annual two-day Pigs & Peaches BBQ Festival that takes place in Kennesaw. You can enjoy the beautiful Georgia sun by going for a stroll a few minutes outside of downtown in the Smith-Gilbert Gardens, where artfully designed gardens with over 3,000 species of plants on 15 acres surround a 150-year-old historic home. Kennesaw’s Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive history is a Smithsonian Affiliate and has a fascinating display on the strategic use of railroads during the war as well as other Civil War exhibits and memorabilia and rotating Smithsonian displays. The neighboring town of Marietta is quaint and has a beautiful square with events throughout the year. American lit fans will definitely want to make a stop in Marietta for the Gone with the Wind Museum, which has costumes from the film, rare prints of the beloved novel, and more.

Escape the Georgia heat at Six Flags White Water, and spend the day splashing around and getting an adrenaline rush on the water rides. On a rainy day, you could spend the afternoon indoors at Kennesaw State University’s Zuckerman Museum of Art which has works by both local and national artists. It is a short drive into Atlanta, where the whole family can enjoy places like the Georgia Aquarium or Coca-Cola museum. When you rent an RV in Kennesaw, you have freedom to roam.
