This park is situated in the central-western portion of this boot-shaped state named Indiana and is a mere 30 miles from the Illinois state line. The nearest town is a little hamlet called Waveland, while the nearest large town is Crawfordsville found about 15 miles to the northeast. The state's capital, and nearest large city is Indianapolis, which is located around 60 miles west of town.

This region differs from the flat, agricultural areas the state is stereotypically known for. This area is far more forested and characterized by ravines and cliffs, that overlook the nearby Sugar Creek.
