The Abode: 2019 Thor Four Winds 22e

Welcome to our humble abode on the road! This 22e is perfect for families hoping to explore the Sierras or the central coast of California, or cross state lines to explore Zion, or the Grand Canyon. The Abode sleeps 6 and has 4 seatbelts, so there’s plenty of room, and measuring under 25’ means that you can get into just about any campgrounds. The E-350 chassis flattens hills and mountains, and the included external solar panel extends your battery for as long as there’s sun. The on-board generator grants you access to air conditioning in the hot months, and access to the microwave in cool months (or both in all months, if that’s your thing!). The galley features a three-burner range and an oven for one of our favorite camping traditions: cinnamon roll breakfasts! There’s a full shower in the bathroom inside and an external shower to wash feet and gear before retiring from a hard day’s exploration in the full dinette to play board games and enjoy some adult beverages (there’s a cocktail mixer in the rig, but you have to provide the hooch). The Abode also plays host to a TV and DVD player (remember DVDs?) with an available Hdmi input all connected to the cabin’s sound system — you won’t need these, though, because you’ll be enjoying nature! The cabin sound system is blue tooth compatible, enabling you to bring your music with you.A propane grill and propane fire pit (especially useful here in the West where fire restrictions forbid wood-burning fire pits) are included, but you’ll need to bring your own 5 gallon propane canister. The outdoor awning is sprawling and the super-bright LED lights (apologies to that tent camper in the Grand Canyon who wasn’t a fan of these) make the front door easy to find after a night hike to the beach or star gazing in Joshua Tree. We love this rig so much we couldn’t keep it for ourselves! What's includedWhat’s included:
- Cooking utensils (cocktail shaker…obvi)
- Propane Fire Pit
- Propane grill
- Camping Chairs
- Bike Rack ($10 per day charge for this; bike racks take a beating on the road)
RecommendationsThe Abode is the perfect National Park rig! It’s self contained and small enough to get in just about anywhere! We also love beach camping and have been really, really impressed with the campsites all the way up the California Coast! Other things to noteBlack Tank Rules:
- You MUST empty and flush the black tank. If you don’t do this, we can’t give you back your deposit…or rather, we’ll be dealing with your deposit in exchange for your “deposit” and we'll be quite displeased about it.
- You MUST monitor the black tank twice a day. Don’t let this thing fill up lest your meals come back to haunt you, and us, and everyone else who would want to rent The Abode in the future.
- Flush generously: the more water in the black tank, the more your…stuff…is covered with smell-neutralizing goodness. Trust me: it’s better to make another trip to the dump station and to fill the fresh water tank than it is to be revisited by last night’s chili while you’re trying to sleep.
- YOU MUST EMPTY AND FLUSH THE BLACK TANK. You gotta do this, guys. Early and often. Thoroughly. I’ll show you how; it’s not pleasant, but it's also not hard.
Clean up the interior:
- We'll provide Clorox Wipes for all surfaces (counters, tables, doorknobs, toilet seat (lid, seat, and rim). Please use them before returning The Abode
- Sweep Daily: the floor is small so you'll want to sweep daily. There's a broom and dustpan in the closet. Please be sure the floor is free from debris —— especially food debris —— before you return The Abode. Sweeping the stairs can be a trial, but I believe in you! You just drove a super duty vehicle hundreds of miles, you can definitely get all the dirt off the stairs!
- There is a Swiffer Mop in the closet; please mop the entire florrbefore returning. Please pay close attention to the bathroom (especially around the base of the toilette), and please mop the bathroom last; tracking bathroom bugs across the floor of The Abode is an epic bummer.
Fresh Water Tank:
Please be mindful about where you fill the fresh water tank. Ask any biology teacher and they'll tell you that still water is the best place in the world to breed tiny little beasties. Please do not encourage the breeding of tiny beasties in the freshwater tank; you risk making sick my family and any family that rents after you. Rule of thumb: if you wouldn't lick the hose you're using to fill up the tank, and you wouldn't drink the water daily from that hose, don't put it in the freshwater tank.

Meet your host, Jesse

Member since 2017

Hi there! I'm a high school History and English teacher who has left my job during the Covid-19 pandemic to home school my 3rd grader. Our little family — me, my software engineering wife, and my 3rd grade son — have found a particular portion of fun exploring the Western states in our RV during the pandemic and would like to share that joy with you! We're a family of makers: my son and I build combat robots, my wife knits and is exploring the brave new world of homemade soaps and lotions, and I roast my own coffee and cook. In fact, renting with us will not only promise a fun trip, but likely a taste of our wares (certainly some coffee, and maybe even some cold-processed soap!). Our "business" is really an extension of the good things we've been able to experience and a hope to share those with you.
